If you wrap the burrito in parchment paper and aluminum foil before freezing, then you can remove the foil and reheat them in the microwave with the parchment paper. This keeps the tortilla soft

Can't you just put the foil in microwave? I heard that wasn't a thing anymore. I tried it once and it isn't seem to do anything. But I grew up with microwaves popping off you put metal in them as well, so I still don't.

These are great, I meal prep them all the time. Never bother freezing them as they're usually gone by the end of the week, I keep the tortillas in a ziplock bag, the beef sauce in a container in the fridge and then roll them as needed. One note, for me they're a bit hard to stomach on their own so I add some greens (salad, spinach) or some sliced carrot in the burrito and a glass of kefir, butter milk or yogurt on the side.

Great recipe, will try this at some point. In my preference, I'd add two servings (200 kcal) of veggies, like few hundred grams of bell pepper, carrots, corn etc, just for volume.

That would give you a total of 700 calories. That's way to much for your first meal. Unless you are on a bulk. But to lose weight. Definitely not good.
@ModrisG
@ModrisG 2 жыл бұрын
@@frogmanpipes9561 I meant 200kcal in total in whole recipe, not for every single torilla. (3080+200)/6=546,6kcal. Also, 700kcal for one meal is not that much. In my previos work I had to walk around 25k steps a day and went to gym 4 times a week. I ate 3100kcal for gaintaining. 4 meals with 700kcal would be a cut for me in those days. What I mean is that it always depends on situation, there are people who like to eat more in breakfast and less in dinner and vice versa.
@frogmanpipes9561
@frogmanpipes9561 2 жыл бұрын
@@ModrisG not to sound harsh or like a tool. But the fact that you mentioned that you walked 25k steps in a day. Just at work. That's just under 13 miles. It's been proven that the amount of steps a person does in a day. Is just a facade. And it doesn't really add up to anything. Just the basic 10k steps only burns around 300 calories. One of the the burritos in the video is 500cal. Not taking sodium, carbs, ect into consideration. This doesn't leave any room to have a balanced meal. Your calorie intake is thrown out the window. If it's not balanced.
@robbybobbijoe
@robbybobbijoe 2 жыл бұрын
@@frogmanpipes9561 You'd had to be 50kg to only burn 300 calories with 10k steps. I do not believe you from you words nor can I find anything on google that it's just a "facade" to walk more during your day. It's a rather vague statement anyway. What I think you meant to say is that walking more than maybe 10k steps during our day does not increase our health or longevity. Not taking more than 5k steps during a day is unhealthy, and I feel like that is pretty logical and obvious. Taking 25k steps instead of 10k is a huuge increase in physical activity in my opinion.

I was hesitant to try these burritos because I love a very traditional rice and bean burrito and thought that this would just taste like a beef and tomato wrap. I couldn't have been more wrong. I always do the onions first… otherwise they steam over the meat. If you put them in a little oil first they taste better. After that add spices of your choice and garlic.. mix for a minute.. then once the water from the onions is all evaporated add the meat on high heat.. you want to sear it.. not boil. Don’t put too much meat all at once otherwise it steams . Who likes boiled meat? Lol then add some chopped tomatoes.. plenty of salt, pepper, a teaspoon of sugar lower the heat and let if cook on low heat. Of course you can add peppers with the onions.. and even beans together with the chopped tomatoes. Also the spices I like are paprika, or smoked paprika, with cayenne pepper, cumin and ground coriander. Herbs wise I like marjoram right at the end . And can also add a bit of lemon or a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to balance the taste. Bloody hell.. got carried away. Meant to post something quick and simple that tastes amazing but wrote a poem. Stick with the video 😂

No, what are those? But seriously, what veggies do you even add in a burrito other than lettuce and those in salsa/guac? Lettuce won't freeze week so that's out. He even added onions. This ain't subway my guy

50g Prot for 500cals is decent, and in my opinion, the barrier to being called "high protein". Also, the only reason I actually tapped on the video. Too many companies and too many recipes try to claim something is high in protein, when they should be called high in fat or high in carbs. Sure, technically the protein cereal, or granola bars or whatever other product is higher in protein compared to their normal version. But look at the nutrition facts. It doesn't matter if the package says it has "twice as much protein" when the regular one has 3 or 4 grams. Long story short. Protein is 10% of cals. 100cals - 10g 150cals - 15g And so on, anything less doesn't count and should be ashamed of themselves.

I would find those tortillas that are only 110 calories or so for that size of tortilla. They are twice the price though but worth it imo.

Tip for defrosting, if you have time I prefer defrosting in the fridge. Put them in the fridge the night before you want to eat them (or the morning if you’re eating them in the evening). Then microwave or heat in the oven to warm up. I find it better this way because when you defrost in the microwave you sometimes get some hot bits and some cold bits

Great recipe - the laughing cow cream cheese really makes a nice beef sauce. I added a can of black beans, some shredded carrot (basically dissolved into the sauce), a green pepper, and some sweet corn. Was able to get a couple extra burritos in volume. Very delicious.

@@smirking8457 thanks for the reply! I plan on eating them sooner as well. Within a couple of weeks probably. I guess freezer burn shouldn't be a problem when stored in airtight containers. I've never really meal prepped long term before. What do you think?

Some ideas I have right after watching: 1. You can add beans for some added protein 2. Instead of cow cheese you could go for greek yoghurt/skyr, lower to no fat, high in protein. 3. Grilling it after microwaving might make eating easier, as well as tastier. Great video!

@@BrucePain-_- Thing is, with beans and the tortilla, you already have lot of carbohydrates. Rice is alright though, maybe sautéing some veggies like peppers would add the volume

Get your onions in first, cook them on low heat for a good 10 mins to get them sweet. Turn the heat up for your meat to get good colour on it. I'd also get some bell peppers and jalapenos into them. When you wrap a burrito, you need to tuck the first fold into the food to seal it.

Tip from a Mexican. To add a more pliable and tastier tortilla; throw in the stove stop or in a pan and let in cook. If you're using just the stove top flip every 5 secs and ensure your rotating it to get it charred evenly (but don't burn it). If a pan is used cook each side for 30-45 sec until brown spots or dark charred spots form. When you go to make your burrito it'll be super pliable and tastier. Also to go off what someone said about the parchment paper then foil. Yup, I agree and also if you know for a fact you're gonna eat it then take it out and stick in the fridge to defrost the day before or 6 hours.
