What about Vegetarians?

Hi Lolita, we don't get many requests from families regarding a vegitarian diet for their child. However, we have had a few. We'll typically have that family bring in some approved and or agreed upon substitutions that we can add to our meals for their child. We will often not be able to "claim" that child on our state food program for reimbursement, however, the accomodation is well appreciated from the family. Kirk

When I was a preschool cook, I had about 40 vegetarians to feed/160 regulars. Our school provided the vegetarian food and a vegetarian menu. There was process to make sure food was not cross contaminated. Parents at our school were also able to bring outside lunch as long as their lunch did not have any nut products. Many of the vegetarian students also brought in different kinds milk, as long as it wasn't coconut, cashew, or almond milk.
