This is how I keep mine and they pupate and breed prolifically :) I love just being able to toss some food in every now and then and take out a few worms when I need them

One time I left mealworm colony on a shelf by accident. Came back 8 months later to more or less a thriving setup full of mealworms of all ages, albeit much like in your case, there was a lot of dead beetle exoskeletons strewn about.

Polystyrene is what they eat, not hard plastic. But it's the only way to recycle polystyrene, so that's miraculous. Thanks for the video. I'm setting one up next week. This will save me a lot of work with sieves and sifting.

Just a piece of advice. Mealworms can only eat expanded polystyrene plastic, Or Styrofoam. I think that plastic is only brittle cause it's old

What temperature do you have to maintain for the worms? Just room temp 68 to 70 degrees F, or much warmer like 80 degrees F. Thank you.

Does the room have to be real warm for raising mealworms? Or can it be around 73 degrees
@cruxj666 Жыл бұрын
Cool temperatures will keep them in their larva stage. Heat produces adults that mate. At room temperature, they do both.

It's big money in mealworms especially for restaurants millions of people world wide are enjoying eating them and they very nutritionist and healthy for you..in fact one mealworm farm made over a million dollar that year .

I kinda do this but I change out most of the oats every month and add more and I also remove beetles to separate bin after I start seeing tiny worms
@Taurusthebull83 жыл бұрын
l have to disagree with you, not cleaning them isn't good breathing that stuff in, dead insects often grows bacteria and molds and that dust can cause health issues later down the road.

@ABeautifulMine Жыл бұрын
I don't think you can. Superworms only pupate alone in the dark. I think they would just all die and be eaten by the mealworms

I don't know why people don't say how bad their frass smells. I don't know if I can raise them. Their poop has a terrible odor. Am I the only one who can smell it? I've been cleaning it out every day or every other day... I do have allergies and asthma, but their poop stinks so bad!

Hi Richard, great video! Any tips on grain mite? I now have six lots of meal worms at different stages and all my beetles for breeding the seventh lot but three lots (2,5 and 6 ) have grain mite. I always feed them last and keep them separate as not to infect my other meal worms. I don't know what to do :(
@sunfiregeckos90412 жыл бұрын
No expert but you need to lower the moisture put vaseline around the top of the container when you lower the humidity it has to be under 55percent lower if you can they eventually try to get out and stick to the vaseline grain mites need humidity above 60 keep it like this for a few weeks someone correct me if you know a better way

@NORTHERN EXOTICS I am thinking of getting a millipede and I have learnt that they need moisture but the enclosure I have is a fanaurium and I have learnt that it isn’t great at holding moisture. How could I modify it so that it is suitable for moisture and housing an insect that needs moisture.

I’ve been meaning to ask you. I have a log with bedding in it on the cool side of my leopard gecko’s tank. Would that be considered a moist hide because he came out of it, rubbed against the rock on the hot side and had a successful shed
@katelynhenson87192 жыл бұрын
One thing I've learned is that if you have a moist hide on the cool side of the tank, it can cause respiratory issues. The moist hide should be in the middle I believe!🥰

I like your content but may I suggest you give a little distance from the camera. Your constant lunging into the camera and waving hands around around your face and moving camera closeups are unsettling and distracting. I know you've been taught by KZbin to be dramatic to attract attention but probably countless people who are a little ADHD like me feel this way. I'm here to learn, not be entertained. Thank you!
