I want to like this movie, but they use the R slur way too much for me to be comfortable. That being said, I prefer the movie *Jawbreaker.* It has similar energy, if you haven't seen that one you should watch it and maybe react to it. It's really good. ❤️❤️
@TransparentEclipse3 жыл бұрын
It’s a movie that’s supposed to be offensive, I’m not surprised they use it. It’s similar to the jump street movies, the whole point is to say extremely perverse things to try and elicit a response from the audience. Tbh, it works.
@TransparentEclipse3 жыл бұрын
Also, this movie is nearly 20 years old, the r word was hardly even foul language back then. Ppl were still going unpunished for bullying and lgbtq people were still being persecuted, I hardly think they cared about the r word
@LangkeeLongkee3 жыл бұрын
@@TransparentEclipse firstly, you're too defensive about that. That's weird. Second, the R word was seen as offensive then... Just like using "gay" as an insult was but the common thread is nobody cared, that's not an excuse if you were saying it back then. Just because nobody was cancelling you for saying it doesn't make it okay. Third, there were jokes in the movie that were clearly meant to be messed up, characters using the r word was not shown in that light, it wasn't treated as another of the offensive jokes, it was just a thing that people said, even "good" characters said it. Fourth, even if that wasn't the case and it was entirely just offensive jokes and that's it, that doesn't mean I have to like it?????? I'm allowed to be uncomfortable by that, especially as an actually disabled person who's had that word weaponised against me to the point where I get panic attacks when I hear it. I don't care why you say it, I don't want to hear it. If it's an offensive joke in your movie, go off you do you, but I don't have to watch it or like it. I don't care. I'm not sitting through a movie to get panic attacks every 15 minutes, if it was a racial slur the energy would be different. (And before you try anything like saying I cant compare it to a racial slur and assume I'm white not knowing what I'm talking about I'm black and part indigenous)
@TransparentEclipse3 жыл бұрын
@@LangkeeLongkee to ur first and fourth points. First: I never defended anything, simply stated why I assume they used the word in the movie. I’m not saying it’s ok. Fourth: never said u have to like it, in fact I see absolutely nothing I said that would imply that u should be ok with the r word, u shouldn’t be. If I was implying u should be ok with it I would’ve said it. I would never imply that the word should be accepted in any light, no matter the intention or motivation behind using it. To the second and third points, I agree for the most part, I was just pointing out how times were back then, ppl were more free with their language because there wasn’t cancel culture. U could call someone gay and very few ppl would’ve stopped u. It’s the sad truth. I lived through it. I however do not condone misuse of language like that and I would happily tell off anyone who used any kind of slur against another human being. Nothing about my comment was intended to be defensive or enigmatic, I was simply stating my view on why I think it was used. I could be completely wrong, was just throwing out my thoughts. Hopefully that clears it up for u
@LangkeeLongkee3 жыл бұрын
@@TransparentEclipse you making all these excuses implies I should be okay with it. If I say "I'm uncomfortable with XYZ" I don't want to be told why it happened. I don't care. You making excuses comes across as "because it was the early 2000's it was okay, get over it".
