The rather sad message of whole Fats Waller song is brought to life with that simple pun at the end. Its a clever word trick that twists this into a more complex if commonplace problem. But in Carter's hands, we know exactly what's going on, see all those layers in that dysfunctional relationship which are brought out long before she says that final ironic line.
