What lovely memories. Was born in Maidstone and didn't leave until 1967. Worked in Morlings Solicitors, top of Gabriels Hill, my father worked for Honors seed merchant, in Week Street then shop moved next to Corn Exchange where I used to roller skate on Saturday mornings. My mother worked at Sharps toffee factory in the evenings and then became a supervisor in Woolworth when the floors were wood and a Saturday girl earnt 18 shillings for the day!! What a lovely jolt to the memory of all the shops I used to frequent. I attended Senacre Secondary School and then Maidstone Technical High School for Girls.

I did not make the video Mark - I found it by accident on line - copied it and added the music. We do think, however, that my late wife's sister is in the scene in the market

Wow that was really interested in seeing Maidstone then to now, i love seeing the past, i was bread and born in Maidstone and still living in Maidstone, i was 1 year old when that was made :-) I was actually born in Park Wood just as the estate was built, i use to hang around the park wood estate, then i use to play in the Boughton Monchelsea Quarries, not much of a town boy then i use to hate going in town. Fantastic Video Thanks so much for sharing the past of Maidstone :-)

Jean (nee Turrell) McKenzie. I left Maidstone in 1967 age 20 years and have settled in Australia. My mum used to work for Mr Di Marco, seen outside his shop in Week St. I remember him, as he used to give me an ice cream if I went in the shop, when Mum was working.

Great video, I used to go downtown every week and do the shopping for my mum. The town was thriving back then, so many people, it was packed on the weekend. Great memories of the past but unfortunately times have changed a lot and the town has now become a ghost town with shops closing down every week. Thanks for the video and the good old memories.

Really excellent video - great to see the market as well as many of the shops. Always a pity that the camera always stopped just before a particular place I would love to have seen again (such as some of the shops in Hart Street) and nothing of Union Street etc - but still, a really enjoyable run through of Maidstone circa 1964

I was 6 when this was filmed but remember so much, and a lot of the buildings still remain the same. The people all seemed to dress and look the same back then.
