I am nearly 80 years old and went through my seven pheras,my father and mother ,who are no longer alive also went through the same ritual My only son who is a IT specialist and my daughter in law ,a scientist,also went through the same. This is the beauty of Hinduism,it is eternal.

During wedding ceremony, the pundit recites a vachan (promise), and the bride & groom walk a circle around the holy fire in consent of the vachan. During the circling around the holi fire, the dupatta of the bride and groom are tied in a knot, thus signalling that the vachan being made is jointly acceptable to both.
