Everyone needs to listen to this as a starting point, before learning in more detail and take charge of their finances. Great content!

Ah, my biggest regret: decided against the critical illness upsell when I took out the mortgage to buy my do-er-upper house. Three months in I got a cancer diagnosis. I had to quit my job once my sick pay and emergency fund ran out, so now I'm living on disability benefits in a dilapidated house that I can't afford to repair or even heat. Hindsight 🙄

Hi Pete, I would like to say a big thank you. I've been a listener for a number of years and your advice has been invaluable through my late teens and early 20's. I can honestly say your podcast and book have been a significant part of the knowledge that has helped me to be where I am today. I'm not rich (and don't want to be) but I'm stable. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Content like yours is a rare find!

I love the analogy of the guitar story. Fantastic and so true to my own life. Nothing narcissistic in what you said at all!

I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to sit my CeMAP (1). This guy is very decent at simplifying concepts. Even when he's not talking directly about stuff I'm not currently studying it still lends into my studies.

The term "it's better to give than receive" may have come from religious belief systems but it also might have come from Phillip Schofield's diary

New listener to the podcast. I'm 25 (worked since I was 17) and season 18 has been really helpful. One thing that hasn't been covered (or at least I haven't been able to find) is... With work place pensions, do you as the employee have any control over the asset allocation (i.e. split between shares / bonds)? For example the scheme at my workplace is with Royal London. I get an annual statement which I quickly review and file... Other than that I couldn't tell you much about it. On the other hand I have a stocks and shares ISA which I feel I have control over and understand what's going on (to some extent). Any help would be appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Hi James. Depends on the scheme but yes, usually you will have some choice over the underlying find options. Ask the pension provider or the payroll/pension dept at work what your options are. Alternatively, you may be able to partially transfer out of the workplace pension say once a year into a plan that you manage yourself.

Hi, i have emergency fund of 3months salary that i keep in premium bonds.....as what seems to be the best place to long term 'store'. thinking instant access but with the chance of winning maybe. Good idea.....good place.......or would you maybe keep 1 month there and invest the rest in with my existing S+S ISA and cash in only if i had too.

I know tons of people who keep their emergency fund in Premium Bonds. I’d maybe have a bit in an ordinary account for truly instant access, but otherwise, PBs make sense for the reasons you say.
