Hi Jim, Very important, very valuable and accurate information. Thank you. One point also is if your using the larger pump, and if that system has a high contamination your risk freezing the water vapor and then your pulling against an ice dam, not the system I demonstrate this with a bell jar hooked to too large a pump. At first you see the water turning to vapor, then in about a minute you see the clear cup of water flash to a solid block of ice. Science Smaller pump bigger hoses = success.

Great video! I wonder what the difference would be between running the 2CFM pump with TruBlu hoses versus running it with two industry standard 3/8" or 1/2" vacuum rated hoses. The cost of a 2 host TruBlu setup is a staggering $550 USD whereas you can buy two 3/8" or even 1/2" vacuum-rated hoses for less than $150 for both and still benefit from a larger diameter, high flow setup without paying the several hundred dollar price difference for TruBlu.
@measureQuick2 жыл бұрын
You are looking at a three hose kit. For residential you just need this. You can simply pull from the suction side of the system and put the vacuum gauge pin the liquid line. It is at least 16x faster and 4x faster then 1/2” hoses. www.trutechtools.com/Accutools-A10757-1-TruBlu-Starter-Evacuation-Kit
@KinetikES5 жыл бұрын
Excellent video. Really shows the difference and that it's not only about pulling the cores, but the hoses too. Also shows that a 2cfm pump can be useful. It's way cheaper, even if you buy two, than a single larger, expensive pump (and you can have redundancy and flexibility).

Jim: I am looking into getting a freeze dryer. They recommend a 7 CFM pump. After watching this it appears to me that I would be ahead by getting a smaller pump with True Blue hoses. Thanks!
@measureQuick4 жыл бұрын
For freeze drying I would recommend both. You need a large enough volume of oil to handle the moisture and a good ballast to dry the oil back out. Smaller pumps typically mean less oil. This a great pump for the money. DC motor, quite, and has a really low amp draw. www.trutechtools.com/NAVAC-NP12DM-12CFM-Vacuum-Pump

I am wondering that even with the bigger diameter hoses, aren’t the connectors at the pump inlet still the bottle neck?
@measureQuick4 жыл бұрын
Rojaktube No they’re not, it has to do with diameter and length. You can go with small diameter’s if the length is very short or larger diameter’s if the length is very long. Vacuum is a little different than pressure in his characteristics. This is what we call conductance speed of a hose

I know absolutely nothing about pumps but Im looking at a HR freeze dryer & from my understanding is its the pumps that gives the most headaches. so a standard is 7cfm & either a clear or black 3/4 hose... However I have looked at a generic one from china & their pump looks bigger but unclear of what the cfm is on it other than 10pa but don't know what that means. Or is as simple as just changing hose? What would be a better option - also live in Australia if that helps.

I have a freeze dryer and a 7cfm pump, supposedly, and I want to run a 5ft hose from machine to pump. A 3/8"ID hose with a 90 degree JIC fitting (so I could run hose out the back) wouldn't work... It only pulled 900 mtorr. Do you know what I'd need in the way of hose and ID to pull more. I need to get it below 500 mtorr. I know freeze drying isn't your thing but the tech is similar with pump and hose. Thought I'd give you a shout. Thanks for any help.
@measureQuick Жыл бұрын
Just order a TruBlue XL kit from TruTech Tools. It is a 3/4” hose and it will do the job very well. You are not even close to how your pump can perform with that 3/8” hose. BTW, if you need a 90 degree fitting for the TruBlu hose, TT has them also.

I'm assuming that using a vac pump with the true blue hoses should allow it to run cooler, because of the shorter run time & the pump isn't working as hard?
@measureQuick Жыл бұрын
So actually it will run harder as it is doing more work. But it does it in a much much shorter amount of time. My guess is most times for residential if you purged with nitrogen prior less then 10 minutes so the pump will get to operating temperature and that is about it.

Question about the TruBlue fittings how much loss of speed is had by using the 1/4 angle fittings compared to the 1/4 straight fitting?
@measureQuick4 жыл бұрын
It’s every minimal, The losses are experienced during the initial degassing which is the shortest part of the evacuation. So from 760k to 20K microns. After that it does not really matter what fitting you are using. On a smaller system like 5 tons or less you might not even tell a difference.

@wd85574 жыл бұрын
Why don't you hook up the 12 cfm pump exactly like the other one. The smaller pump will get smoked period,
@measureQuick4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the rig. If there were both hooked to the 4 valve manifold with 1/4" hoses they would be almost identical as the flow is restricted by the manifold and smaller hoses to about .5 CFM. It does not matter if you hook a 12 or a 2 CFM pump up, the hoses are the restricting factor. Hook them both to TruBlu, and the larger pump will win for sure as the pump is the major restriction after the hoses. There are three restrictions in every system, the pump, the connecting manifold and the system itself. One of them will always be the limiting factor on speed.

Does anyone know if it is possible to install two pumps in pararell?
@measureQuick Жыл бұрын
It is most important to have a good connecting hose then a second pump. The system conductance really becomes the next limiting factor. So two pumps are definitely not necessary or recommended.
@yugos.oficial Жыл бұрын
@@measureQuick I will definitely use a hose like the blue one from the video as I understood the importance of a wide hose for a proper air flow. The thing is that the application I am using the vacuum pump for doesn't need to be super deep vacuum but to reach a good vacuum as soon as possible. I was just curious because I couldn't find any video in KZbin about connecting two pumps in parallel...

would the 2cfm pump work just as good 3/8 hose
@measureQuick4 жыл бұрын
Steven Nieves no, all of the 3/8” and 1/2” you see is repurposed refrigerant charging hose. TruBlue is made differently. It is engineered for vacuum. It performs exponentially better.
@steve92724 жыл бұрын
so the 3/8 or 1/2 repurposed refrigerant charging hose gets less then 2 cfm
@measureQuick4 жыл бұрын
3/8” (1/2” OD) nominal diameter is good for about .7 CFM at 1000 microns and gets lower the deeper the vacuum gets. That type of hose is not as good for deep vacuum.
