How can I determine the actual left atrial volume from the apical 2-chamber and 4-chamber views? Is it finding the average of the LAV values from the 2-chamber and 4-chamber views or the highest value between the two views?

Measure the diastolic LA volume in both views (2 chamber and 4 chamber) and obtain the average... That will give you the LA Biplane volume.

Yes, if you can always use the average between the volume obtained in 4 chamber view and in 2 chamber view and that's the measurement you are going to use to index it by BSA

Sorry but this is not correct. You included the pulmonary vein in your measurement and the length difference should be + or - 0.5 cm between Apical 4 and Apical 2 left atriums.

Hello, every country has different guidelines but for the UK (LA vol for females: 20-67ml and LA vol for males: 24-77ml), also you can correct this by BSA.

Also diameter is not the only thing we measure to make sure the left atrium is normal... And everything is indexed by your BSA

You have to check the normal values according to your country guidelines and this is different for sex and BSA.
