Bucket Head was played slowly here! Almost always, fast songs on the recording were played several times faster. I have a memory from around this time (1986) of them playing Enchanted Porkfist at an outrageous speed, as it was happening I was waiting for them to crash and burn. How could they maintain such an extreme tempo, yet, to my surprise, they did. They were so killer, over the top and truly righteous back then. I wish I could go back and see all those 80 Meat Puppets shows again. Holy cow were they loud, too! Those shows were such fun. None of the energy of those shows translates through video recordings, you truly had to be there. Anyone watching these saying to themselves "Yeah, what's the big deal?" needs to know they created and transmitted an indescribable energy that sucked you in and swept you away. They might play for three hours, and I never once asked myself when it would be over, how much longer, or anything like that. Just went along for the ride, and then the next thing I knew, they were saying 'goodnight'. Glad I was there when it was happening.

You’re very lucky, 80 shows you must have been on tour with them, maybe you saw black flag too. I think they were both on SST records. My first meat puppets show was October, 29, 1994 at the Fillmore in San Francisco, blew me away one of the best shows. It was right after To High To Die came out. I’ve seen them 5-6 times since then, but THAT show was amazing

Pat Smear lived around the block from the Music Machine. Went to see Strawberry Alarm Clock AND THEY DIDNT PLAY INCENCE AND PEPPERMINT! Saw Eugene Chadborn though. Bowed a birdcage on his head. Amplified!
@burbeefylimowhitz99084 ай бұрын
Whoa Eugene Chadborn that's a deep cut! I saw him at an alternative bookstore (remember those!) in Providence RI in around 1994. I hung out with him before & after the show because he was just kinda chilling with everyone at the store. He was a wicked cool guy. I still probably have the tape I bought off him somewhere. He played his electric rake that show!

My high school band got to play at The Music Machine a few times. Because we were underage, we had to hide backstage until it was time to play. Wonderful memories.

I booked them a couple times in the late '80's in the SF Bay area and they were stellar. Contrary to popular belief, they did NOT sell weed out of their travelling EconoVan.

Great upload! Never saw this footage before. I saw the Minutemen live in Nov. 1985 (in San Pedro) at what I believe was their last live show in California before D. Boon's tragic passing. I wasn't at this Meat Puppets show but I did see them a few months later in Aug. 1986 at the Roxy on Sunset. Nice to see Mike Watt all smiles. Really tight set....Maiden's Milk is on fire here! Smoking....
