To be honest, I would start playing hearthstone myself again if this were the case. You got the reason right on the chin, for why I stopped playing. Together with the fact that it became less and less skill based with each release since the rotation system. It got the Yugioh vibe. Now there are matchups which are 100% unwinable. And you need the full set of a meta deck, like shudderwock shaman to be competetive.

He used Boomship that puts 3 random minions from your hand into the board. That's 9 mana. One of those minions is Malygos, who gives +5 damage to all your damaging (but not healing) spells. and the other is Mecha'thun, whose Deathrattle (an ability used upon death) is instantly winning the game if you have no other minions on the board (the board on your side is clear), no cards in your hand and no cards left in your deck. It has to be your very very last card. Now, Trump also had 2 Inner Rage cards, which are spells that deal 1 damage to a minion, but also give it 2 more attack damage, that both are free (cost 0 mana) and 1 Whirlwind, which deals 1 damage to ALL minions, which costs 1 mana. So he had a Mecha'thun with 10 life and Malygos with 9 life. Used Inner rage on both (so 1+5 damage from Malygos), then he used Whirlwind (1+5 damage), killing his whole board, emptying his hand (these were his last cards, as you have seen), and with no more cards to draw, he instantly won the game. I hope I explained it clear enough :)
