Bedazzled CLA250 came in for a brake inspection because the fronts were completely gone, almost ate all the way through the pads. Also had 4 bald tires, brake fluid was essentially rusty metal, among other things, all of which were denied other than the brakes because she had none… hence my frustration with this one lol

The filter isn't dirty, so the last mechanic and/or you split it on purpose to make another $40? No wonder she doesn't want to pay lol. Could be worse. The last "expert" franchise mechanic I went to crossthreaded a few of my lug nuts as a present, after hearing that I didn't want a $1600 set of tires in order to finish the oil change I asked them for.
@JHANKSMEDIA9 ай бұрын
@@capsulate8642 lol it definitely was dirty, but that’s besides the point. But properly checking an air filter means taking it out and checking the actual FILTERING side where air is flowing in. Even if the engine side of the filter looks clean, doesn’t mean the other side isn’t dirty or clogged. But in this case, I didn’t tear the filter. It was so degraded already that it was already torn, and it came out in two pieces while attempting to remove the filter to check it. Most techs, including me, get paid flat rate. That would be, at most, probably 0.2 hrs. Not even $5 I’d get paid. So no, it wouldn’t even be worth ripping the filter in half myself to try to sell her a filter. Regardless, if the filter is torn like that, there’s a good chance of large particulates getting right through that opening and the filter is deemed useless.

Normally a paint marker spot or something under the edge of an air filter is a simple and easy check (please don't put it on the filter paper itself). Often have things like air filters come back from dodgy mechanics. You know they took a look went "ah its not too bad" used an air gun to 'blow out' the filter then charged the customer for replacing the filter and returned it to their parts supplier.

I do 90% of my own repairs, and 100% of my own 'daily' maintenance. right now, im fixing all the 'make it look pretty' repairs the dealership did to the 2014 4runner i bought last year. To include a Bondo repair on the oil pan, a bondo repair to the leaky master cylinder, bondo on the main brakeline. Four rotors that were clearly just polished to look new, and 4 new calipers that had been WELDED to the mounts. Had to re-thread just about every bolt hole i needed to put a bolt in. My neighbor is a retired mechanic, and one of the best compliments he can give is 'id put you to work in my shop' when it comes to owner repairs on cars. Hes said it to me a few times. Finding a good mechanic is not easy. I’m an ex mechanic with 10 years experience, though I’m out of the industry now due to an injury. I had to find a new mechanic for myself after my regular mechanic retired. Found a well reviewed German specialist (for my Audi & VW). Told them I’m a former Audi A tech, turned out the owner worked for the same dealer as me a year after I left. Brought my Audi in for maintenance and everything seemed fine. When I bought a mk5 GTI I decided to tune it right away and brought it with all the parts. A day after getting the car back on the highway at 80mph I started getting a bad vibration, so I limped the car home. Found both front wheels weren’t tightened. After finding a new mechanic, had him look over all the work done and found nothing was tightened. My new exhaust was about to come apart, all the bolts on my new axle were starting to back out, clutch wasn’t done right, etc. Thank god I did my own brakes. Turns out my Audi was worked on by their senior tech, the GTI was given to the most junior tech because he was a GTI enthusiast. 🤦🏼♂️

little correction for the 4wd bearing on a 2wd car: bearings with a transmission going through them usually need the bolt from that transmission to hold the outside half to the inside one. so in this case, even with correct size, the side that you wrench or press mount will hold, but the outside part wont be hold by anything and just be teared away by the wheel

0:42 1:43 (and all the others) Thank you. I know enough about automobiles to let a certified mechanic perform all the work on my automobile. I do enjoy learning how the world works, and want to be more knowledgeable. I appreciate the explanations.

I'm self employed doing heavy/farm equipment repairs, and fix my own trucks but don't do cars or trucks for customers. This is the first time I've watched the channel, and If I was looking to hire one of these mechanics I'd say it would be Angelina There is something about her personality and confidence comes over real strong, to be honest the guy just comes over like some of the guys in my local auto shop I really don't have the time of day for. Angelina saying later that she teaches makes perfect sense of the difference between the 2, way to go girl. I have no problem with female mechanics if you can do the job, and aren't just a poster child filling a position because it looks good for the company. 10 of us carried a girl through our course during school in 1990 so she didn't look a total failure with no grade. Sadly she really just wasted a course spot somebody else like Angelina that was going to succeed didn't get. Take care guys.

It's a "fake" video, in that they did it on purpose and then put it on line as if it was a real mistake 😂

A year or two ago I took my 1998 Dodge Dakota to a shop a block or two from my house to get my power steering leak repaired, I ended up coming back to them 3 different times for a fix that should've taken one time. they did not deliver and I finally got around to getting my power steering repaired a month ago at a different more reputable shop and it was a automatic fix! I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING YET! and I work pizza delivery daily driving my truck for work so I know the fix was good! the first shop couldnt give me a straight answer on what was wrong with it so I automatically should've taken it elsewhere! the second one automatically found and solved the problem and let me know what it was! What was the problem? it was the Rack and pinion.. Glad I found these new guys!

@Noone-jn3jp @Noone-jn3jp I was thinking it was a great idea. Soak some rags in Dove liquid, put them inside the engine and it will always be clean as they rub against the moving parts.. Learn something new every day .... LOL

When I bought my 1970 Roadrunner, the person who I got it from left a rag in the oil pan. I found it cause it had no pressure. It wrapped around the pickup tube.

My ultimate hack find was bought a 55 ford truck cheap in the way back from old farmer, had a miss, but ran good. In the checking out problem, one cylinder no compression. Pulled head, whole piston assembly gone, and a fence post peice pressed into hole. I put back together drove for a couple years, and resold...

About the rag forgotten inside the engine… I’ll be honest with you guys… I did too😂 In the classic cars shop I used to work in the past we had a crazy season with a flood of customers from sort of all types of maintenances… Then one customer brought an Range Rover. Typically V8 engine with gaskets leaking between its banks. Soo after I took the intake out the day was sooooo busy I had to stop my work at that point, but the car was sitting outdoors and windy, then I had an stupid idea to fill the ports with a clean pieces of rag to protect against dust… Then next day of hell of customers sweating and running here and there it has come the time to put the parts together… Then when I was starting the car… Total disaster! I FORGOT THE FU**ING PIECES OF RAG… I had two days cleaning valves, push rods checking if where rods damage or valves… Luckily the old two valves V8 engines are strong, if was an 32 valves nowadays engine probably damaged valves… What a horrible day…

Many years ago - okay, decades - when I was a real mechanic, customer brought his vehicle in, complaining about the brakes not working. He didn't mention that the system was losing fluid...all over the underneath of the vehicle. I climb under it and take a quick look and discovered that he'd replaced all the original brake lines with copper tubing and that the brake fluid had eroded through the brake line, everywhere. Now this wasn't the modern day copper-nickle stuff that looks like copper, but doesn't have the properties of copper. No, this was actual copper tubing like they used to use for water lines in houses. Only much smaller. I'm not even sure where you'd buy stuff like that, or what it's real use would be for. Water fountains, maybe. We quoted him a price to do the job correctly, but he ended up towing the vehicle out of our shop because he didn't like our prices.
