Good day sir, your videos on shigley machine design are all marvelous. Thanks for your efforts, I would be greatful if you help me with this question 1. How do one tell if there is localized yielding or not using the factors of safety 2. How do one tell if there is treat from the fatigue factor of safety (when a bunch mark is not given) 3. Basically my questions is about how to interpret fatigue factor of safety and static failure factor of safety after calculating it. Thank you soo much as you help me out. God bless you.

Hey Javad! At 53:37, when you identify the green point on the load line which you use to find the reversed stress, how do you find that point?
@easypeasyengineering53608 жыл бұрын
that point was just an example. in order to plot in any point in the graph, first we need to find sigma_max and sigma_min (and Kf sometimes). Then we can find sigma_m and sigma_m based on the maximum and minimum stresses. The x-value of the point will be sigma_m and the y-value will be sigma_a. at 53:57, i assumed for an specific sigma_m and sigma_a are evaluated. Then I just showed that point on the graph. In order to have better visualization, I used that green point instead of point A.

Excellent stuff! Can you direct me to the video in which you have explained the difference between pressure and stress?
@easypeasyengineering53607 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Pressure and stress may look the same if someone wants to judge them only based on their equations i.e force over area (P/A). However, the main difference here is about the TYPE of these two parameters. Pressure is 0-degree tensor and it is (99% of cases) treated as a scalar while stress is a tensor with higher order. In order to have a better understanding about your inquiry I suggest you to study over "vectors and tensors" chapter of your mathematical reference book.
