That happened to the old school dakar trucks. They where hitting +200km/h passing cars and motorcycles. The accidents where brutal and almost always fatal so they limited them as well

@@beardedcommie55 Those were a quite a bit more insane than these race trucks. There was one major fatal accident, which led to the banning of those trucks. It was the DAF TurboTwin X2, which had two triple turbo diesels, putting out a combined 1200hp in the 1980's. Aluminium space frame. Pure insanity. The most famous clip is from 1988 when Jan de Rooy, the captain of the Dutch DAF team, in his X2 passing the Peugeot 406 T16 of Ari Vaatanen, both doing 200km/h+ on sand. A few minutes after that was filmed, the sister truck hit some bumps and started to porpoise until the bumper dug in. It rolled at around 180km/h and came to a stop a couple of hundred meters later. The navigator, Kees van Loevezijn, was thrown from the cab, still strapped into his seat. The driver, Theo van de Rijt, and Scottish mechanic Chris Ross where seriously injured, with Van de Rijt still in the cab but out of his seat and Ross laying in front of the cab. Van Loevezijn was thrown several 10's of meters and was dead on impact. It came to light that the seat rails were never upgraded and were still factory road spec. Nobody thought to reinforce them as the power went up. Coincidentally, the night before, a French news chopper had flown ahead to the next campsite. That morning, a huge sandstorm rolled in and grounded all helicopters, including the first aid one. The French news chopper was the only one in the area able to fly, so it was roped in to serve as the first aid helicopter. It was the first to arrive at the scene of the DAF crash and because of the circumstances, they had a news crew with them so it was all filmed. The French in the 80's didn't care and they filmed the carnage up close. It is on YT if you can stomach it. There is also footage of Jan de Rooy arriving at the finish and being told the news by the person interviewing him. It is heart breaking to watch. DAF immediately withdrew from racing and the TurboTwin program was cancelled. Jan de Rooy bought the team and all the equipment, which he used to enter Dakar and win several times. His son races Dakar as well. It was a big deal in the Netherlands as Dakar was very popular back then. Recently, a documentary was made called "DAF in le Dakar: De woestijn bleef leeg" (DAF in the Dakar: The desert remained empty), where they interview people involved with the team in 1988, including DAF higher ups. It's a lot of shifting blame and trying to no be responsible. Except for Theo van de Rijt, the driver. You can see the sadness in his eyes as he talks about it. He says he doesn't feel responsible, but he was driving, so how can you not. As a form of therapy, to clear his mind, he cycles 20 km's per day, every day. Racing is crazy. It is fairly safe nowadays but it was so wild a couple of decades ago.

As for the Tractor Pulling: If you dive deeper into this, you'd be surprised what you dig up. There's the fabled FREE classes. Here, they're allowed to put ANYTHING into those beasts to make them go. Not only the 4-engine beauty you saw in that clip, but WW2 fighter jet engines, tank engines, helicopter turbines, boat engines and more. The top end of this ladder pushes 10k+ horsepower on dirt whilst pulling a sled with up to 24t weight for 100m.

We used to watch the truck and tractor pulls at the Astrodome back in the '80s. They usually did a mud bog in the middle and a motoX track or monster trucks. They did 5 engine dragster tractors or those jet engined ones. Those jets weren't all that loud, but holy sheeeit those 5 engines in the Dome were the loudest thing I've ever withstood. Good times!

Compared to smaller vehicles on the road, it really does take a fair bit of work from the driver to get them moving from a stop. Right now I'm smiling remembering my boss as he first drove those trucks, but sped up and with wacky music in the background. (he bought an excavation company and absorbed the one I worked for into it, all the earlier equipment was smaller. He had a CDL, but didn't really have much practical experience with anything bigger than a Ram 3500 at the time. He wasn't bad or anything, but such things do take a little time and I saw those growing pains so-to-speak)

I seriously love those Euro tucks !!! Those thing are seriously fast. So fast in fact, that they are fitted with water sprayers on the front brakes. So when the brake very hard, and at those speeds they have to, it spray water to cool the brakes, in order to keep it from glazing over because of the heat and friction. If you watch some of the videos, you'll see what looks like smoke coming from the front wheels, except it is the spray from the water. Really COOL STUFF !!! In 2000, they toured South Africa, and i got to go watch them, racing on Kyalami !!! It was EPIC to say the least. They asked one of the trucks, to challenge a touring racing car on a quarter mile dash ... The touring car was left sniffing the "coal rolling" vapors !!! P.S.: Hay, you guys really should introduce Angelina and Sandro to: "Rallycross" !!! Yah, you missed that one ... 😉

In my area we have two wheel tractor racing as a motorsport. We couple a custom trailer with a racing seat and roll cage to them and race them on a dirt track, usually against the clock. The lower classes are stock or only slightly modified, but there's also classes with engine swaps and the top classes are basically custom built buggies with sportbike engines. And as it is still an entry level motorsport instead of carbon parts from a windtunnel and professional teams with security you get cannibalised parts and mad mechanics that like to show you around if you show some interest

8:52 Angelina a setup with three 18 cylinder Radial engine aircraft engines are wild each of them produces about 800hp to 1200hp the biggest setup i have seen was with two Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major engines from a b-50 bomber, each of them as a normal power rating of 4,300 hp and a WEP boost of 10%. this is wilde. Those engines are crazy.

For a derby use a 1990 lincoln town car I t-boned a dodge ram 3500 bighorn edition doing 40 mph and I was not hurt at all didn't even hit the airbag. And it started after and drove to a parking lot up the block.
