Both versions of Xenon can exist in their own right. If I want the more brutal and evil sounding of the two, I'll go for the original, where if I want the one that's more epic and dramatic, I'd go for the compendium version. I personally adore this version of Thales for being dramatic sounding, but I can see how lots of people might not like the difference it has from the original. Also the compendium version of Zoticus is phenomenal.

I absolutely love the added orchestration in certain songs but I have to add my opinion. I feel like the drive behind this song is beginning to be pulled out and drowned, simply because the orchestration is too loud. This song is much like the 'planetfall' to the progenitor album. That extremely heavy, hectic feeling. The orchestration has taken completely away from some EXTREMELY talented riffs and vocals. Just a bit much. Always a loyal follower and always will be! Just wanted to give my opinion!

Joe could've just replaced this huge loud orchestra with a much louder version of the bulgarian chants from the original.

This song is a perfect example where I think the execution falters and kills what the original song achieves. Xenon, on the whole, I feel did not profit at all from this reversioning and Thales shows why. The original song is menacingly evil, with loud and pounding drums, very riff centric, the orchestrations being subtle in the background providing the hectic undertones. Here, on the other hand, the neverending orchestra just overshadows the mean riffs and neuters the aggressiveness of it all. Additionally, this mix sucks the power out of the vocals, especially the cleans at the end. It just isn't dynamic unfortunately.

Completely agree!

I'd like to add that the synthesized strings during the choruses which add the dramatic atmosphere are inaudible here too just like the chants in the middle and at the end. Listening to both versions one after another really shows what subtleties and textures have been removed in the new version in favor of a less unique and overbearing orchestra on top of it all, sadly. It makes the song feel slower and less brutal too.

Agreed. The orchestra feels overused in general in these compendium remastered song versions, making them all sound pretty much the same. This song is sadly no exception to that :-/
