This looks like the APC from "Aliens" will have to pull out 3026 tech readout and have a look.

Not really, the M577 had a front mounted secondary turret with dual rotary cannons.

@@KageRyuu6 The same effects studio that created Aliens created the MW2 intro, Lightstorm Entertainment, had some influence on the development of the game itself. It's likely they influenced the game.

@@FarseerAnimation I think the intro was done by CA-based Digital Domain. They even displayed a version in full broadcast quality at E3 '95.

The MW2 version is a bit different than the CBT version.
@KageRyuu64 жыл бұрын
Correction "1 ton of machine gun ammunition in total" not each. A full ton is already excessive, two would be decidedly more so and certainly doesn't match the TRO. Also "each APC can carry up to 10 troopers" as they only have a 1 ton troop compartment, that is just barely enough for 10 foot, 6 jump, or 5 motor troopers. Not a full platoon of 28 which would be 3-6 tons.
@FarseerAnimation4 жыл бұрын
In the game weapons cannot share pools of ammo, so the version featured there requires the use of two tons of ammo to work properly. This may be different in CBT but I can't find a TRO entry that states otherwise.

@@FarseerAnimation Weapons in MechWarrior 2: 31CC and GBL and all versions MW4 needed their own ammunition bins, every other MechWarrior game uses shared bins (even Mech2: Mercs). Shared bins are also used in tabletop as the defacto rule, such as the Piranha Clan light 'Mech, which has a whopping 12 machine guns, but only two half-tons of ammunition (probably for redundancy's sake if it were to lose a side-torso). You wouldn't find a hard and fast rule about it in a Technical Readout, though, it would be in one of the TT rulebooks like the Compendium, Master Rules, or Total Warfare and TechManual.

Project Dark Fox Correct, this is just based on the MW2 unit.

28 troopers? It only has a 1 ton infantry bay. It took 23 years from when this vehicle was first introduced in TRO 3026 for it to have any official 1 ton infantry squad record sheets in TRO 3085 that it could be used with.

Y'know, people keep talking about MW2's version looking like a vehicle in Aliens, but the wheeled APC looks like that in pretty much all _BattleTech_ media. The tabletop's version looks like that too. I somehow doubt it's because of MW2, but I could be wrong, I suppose; I just think this _Aliens_ reference is older than people think. lol EDIT: Okay, looking at that image you put up again, I can kinda see how the tabletop's artwork differs compared to the version used in MW2 and later video game media and how the latter more clearly looks like the movie's vehicle... At the same time, though, the tabletop's design really isn't terribly far off the mark itself. Although I wonder how many times the wheeled APC has turned up in games before MW2, and what it looked like in those games? I was shocked to find out there was a good handful of _BattleTech_ video games before MW2 (or even the first _MechWarrior_ game) ever showed up on the scene. Did this design really originate with MW2...? Oh, by the way, my birthday is in 5 days. I'm probably going to be able to finally play a proper game of tabletop with my family. It'll be a blast!
