Mechwar in The Holy Valley :Hamat, Msaylha Fort, Saydet el Nouriyeh, Saydet Kaftoun (Part 22)
.
المسير في الوادي المقدس: حامات، قلعة المسيلحة، سيدة النورية، سيدة كفتون (الجزء 22)
.
The Mseilha Fort is a fortification situated north of the village of Hamat in Lebanon. The current fort was built by Emir Fakhreddine II in the 17th century to guard the route from Tripoli to Beirut. The fort is built on a long, narrow limestone rock near the Nahr el-Jawz River.
.
Our Lady of Nourieh (Saydet el Nourieh in Arabic) is a Marian shrine in Hamat, Lebanon. Nourieh is a derivative of the Arabic word, nour, meaning light. Thus, in English, the Marian shrine can be called, Our Lady of Light.
The story of Our Lady of Light shrine and monastery is celebrated throughout Lebanon, a country where Christianity has existed since Jesus first evangelized in Tyre and Sidon, and therefore, Lebanon is often considered part of the “Holy Land.” Some of the first Christian communities were set up in Lebanon during the time of the apostles.
It is believed that two sailors built the shrine in the 4th century. One winter night, on a very stormy sea, the two sailors found themselves in peril. They began praying, and the Virgin appeared to them as a light and guided them gently to the shore of Theoprosopon near modern-day Chekka in North Lebanon. The grateful sailors carved a cave in the cliff and dedicated it to the Virgin Mary, and called the shrine, Our Lady of Light. A Greek Orthodox monastery was built in the 17th century. The miraculous icon of the Theotokos has been venerated for centuries for having glowed with light to attract wayward ships.
.
Kaftoun (Arabic: كَفْتُون) is a small Lebanese village located along the north bank of the Walnut River, in the Koura District, North Lebanon. The population of the village is approximately three-hundred, spread around seventy-four houses. They are mostly of Greek Orthodox ancestry. The name "Kaftoun" in the ancient Aramaic language means "dug from" or "sculpted from" a cliff and also (Kftuna) could means "the domed".
Both roots of the word lead us to believe that the village of Kaftoun was named after the domed Theotokos Monastery[2] which is carved in the red rock cliffs by the banks of the Jaouz River.
.
Hamat is a village in Lebanon. It is located 287 meters atop the historic cape of Theoprosopon. It is home to the historic shrine and monastery of Our Lady of Nourieh. The village is also home to Saint Elias Church, which overlooks the Jawz River, or the River of Walnuts and the ancient Phoenician coastal town of Batroun.

Enjoyed this one so much. That was the fastest 50 minutes of my week. You're hysterical overall but especially in the abandoned train tunnel. And then WOW that fig tree when you came out was beautiful. I want to grow figs in Lebanon. I want to buy land in a great part of Lebanon for growing figs. A good sign of that is where they are thriving naturally without any human intervention, and that's what that fig tree looked like it was doing. In the middle of nowhere. I think you said that was Saydet el Nouriyah? The English CC translation wasnt good. Part of the reason I am watching your great videos, outside of the wonderful people, food, country, and humor, is to find the right place to grow some figs. It has to be a good place with good people and food. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you
