I did complain about pound for pound value of the base game, Russ. The full stop to technology progression and lack of anything to do other than replay the exact same missions, with zero deviation in enemy force or position, and dead or missing pilots in your starmates' seats eventually forced me to delete the game from my Xbox, since it's over 1/3 the total capacity of the drive- simply way too big to keep on there when better games are arriving every day. It was fun, once through the campaign, and for about a week after I finished it. PGI has got to be the greatest 'one step forward/ two steps back' organization I've ever encountered, and I was in the army.

It's a chintzy DLC that shouldn't have been $20. Plain and simple. They needed to at least lower the price, or throw in new Chasis that could be used in the campaign. Really a shame about the relationship situation too, your podcasts with Russ gave a lot of cool insight into their plans for the IP going forward. PGI needs to consider their audience and the volatility of their reputation with the fanbase. Stuff like this does not provide positive word of mouth, and that is infinitely more valueable than rushing out a mediocre DLC to try to get some holiday revenue. Reactions on the announcement day were instantly negative, and it's not YOUR fault one iota, Russ needs to wake up and take the feedback instead of trying to justify it to his own customers. Anyways, thanks for your honesty on what you think about this release! That's appreciated and shows your integrity.

Not surprising PGi went this way. After all the things they have done over the years, I am not surprised they went down this path. And I would not be surprised if they get worse. Russ is a manchild, short and simple. As much as I love battletech and mechwarrior for the mech sim, I'd rather have the mechwarrior franchise be in a good spot where I can remember it with familiarity but no longer get any new content, rather than some man like Russ at the helm and putting a bad look on it in the long run. He's doing more damage than he's doing good. His response to all of this is out of line. MW5M for all of its faults is infinitely better and far more modable than this game ever will end up able to be. The only good thing about this is modders will just rip the assets from this and backwards port it to MW5M instead since other clan mechs don't have the damage model stuff that the clan ones do from MWO that have already been ported..
@MrSsjgoku72000Ай бұрын
I agree. Paying More mode to play a few camo patterns, and a few options for loadouts is Nuts. And I wouldn't call them skins, like the Dragon's Gambit DLC, had "skins". Cuz there you got the Horns and Spikes and other accoutrement. These "skins" in Clans are just new Camos. Now if they gave us the skins a a few new Mechs, that would make it more worth it. But paying for games modes......that would be like being asked in MW5:Mercs to pay just for new mission types. What I think a DLC for Clans would/should be......Is a Clan Ghost Bear Campaign, For Jade Falcon Campaign, Or Wolf.....or etc. And with Each Clan, you get New Mechs of those clans. Ghost Bear Gets their Kodiaks, Wolf Gets Orion IIC or Linebacker, Jade Falcons get Black Lanner or Cougar or Fire Falcon. Then you follow their invasion campaigns. I mean I get some fans didn't like the open ended-ness of MW5: MERCS, But it still has a main story/campaign.....and heavy replayability.....if just to go around and find all the HERO Mechs. But to Pay for a couple of simulation options, new camos, and slight loadout variations......not worth it. I'd rather they update the game so I can do a replay of the campaign, but keep all my previous upgrades so I can eventually do all the available weapon and gear research. Then I can replay on harder difficulties without getting upset I can't progress or play lower difficulties with maxxed gear so I can feel more like the Dominant Force the Clans are supposed to be. Or new missions so I can continue to find more salvage to do more research. But I'm a completionist gamer....I don't like ending games and know there is stuff stuff that can be done.

As I said in Twitch chat a couple of days ago, there's not really much in this DLC that draws me in. I might buy it for horde mode (assuming it gets fixed) if it goes on sale for $5, but for $20 it doesn't feel like it adds enough to be worth it over just buying another new game. Especially at this time of the year when I can maybe pick up several games for that price instead.
@trevorreniger5670Ай бұрын
Hoard is just a round-based onslaught mode. Calling that, plus a private match MWO, and MWO Heroes being ported over a DLC is an insult. I also expected a campaign from another clan (and a few new *chassis* being ported from MWO) but I understand that another campaign is literally doubling this game. The story, cutscenes, voice acting, ect requires tons of resources and really, that's all this game offered in the first place. There's no Endgame. So at least add in some randomized mission mode on a small star map and call us a "beginning of sandbox" to get people excited. Ugh. What a disappointment.

He said the mechpack for MWO don't work yet this is literally what they tried to do with this first DLC. Everyone should have seen that this guy was gonna shoot this crap in the foot. PGI is seriously delusional in how they view things. They keep fucking themselves over making stupid decisions, and let MWO fall by the waist side... the MWO store is still so old and legacy they wonder why nobody buys anything. Who is gonna pay $30 for a pack of hellbringers??? NOBODY! They could still fix that up and make a great successor to MWO, except they listen to nobody but themselves. MW5Clans was dead on arrival anyways, and PGI doesn't know wtf they are doing. Thanks for sticking up for us! Russ will never own up to shit. He's a genius, and speaks that way constantly when he's talking. He's right, he knows it all, and he can do no wrong, so he gave you the boot. He cant take any criticism and thats a terrible quality when you have to make a product people will love. They need a solid community manager that interacts and can speak on behalf of PGI. The current state of PGI shows their mentality and why they have constantly failed with MWO and now with MW5 too. Didn't they have to get bought out by another company just to stay afloat, that should speak volumes. They used to have a huge staff for MWO of peoole who did nothing like Tina Benoit and how many others? Why was the money never spent on improving MWO for all those years? PGI is an absolute mess

Gotta respect you keeping it real, Phil. Cool to see my post in the video haha. Gamepass is creating a pretty substantial issue in the industry and it's not just PGI at the root of the problem. Everyone can bypass the cost to entry which is great for getting in a bunch of new players, but the problem is even games that were never intended to be a live service have to take on live service monetization strategies or in this case, inflated cost of DLC to make up for the disparity in upfront sales. CoD is literally doing battlepasses in a full priced game right now. This is a much larger issue than what PGI is doing, it's damn near industry-wide. Games will likely trend in this direction as long as Gamepass continues to operate the way it does. What's the right move? You'll get less engagement at launch if you skip gamepass but then DLC can be distributed in a way that's more ethically sound. It's a whole can of worms with no easy answer imo. Edit: I also really hope this isn't truly the end of your relationship with PGI. I'm holding out hope that after some careful consideration, they can see that none of us have malevolent intentions. It's good that the players offer feedback about the parts of these games that are done well, and the parts that are not. This is a chance to learn and deepen their relationship with the community. This is absolutely not a mountain out of a molehill situation. If precedent is allowed to simmer, it will be repeated for lack of negative feedback. This is an essential part of the process!

When you do get the horde mode to work without crashing, it lasts way too long. I played it first attempt with an optimized star to see how far I could get, took 6 hours. I have uploaded it to my channel if youre interested. They need to scale up difficulty much faster.. like 100% faster. Round 35 was what I felt like round 20 should be. No one is going to play this regularly for hours. If that is fixed, the only other problem I had with horde was the lack of variety. Different maps, enemy clan mechs and strategies etc would help. We tried arena with our co-op group and it sucks that you cant set up fair teams (5 people) and you cant fight against an AI team. We probably wont be playing it again. In the end, this should have been a free update, and calling it a DLC is insulting the players. If PGI doesnt make some big changes soon, this is a nail in the coffin of this game. Already some people will not return to this game ever, just on principle.

I did buy it because I want to support PGI so there is more MechWarrior in the future but after learning more I feel cheated for buying it and while I haven't played it, yet I do feel that it should have been an update or something that maybe at best been $5-$10 tops for we want game support money. Hearing how half-baked this is and bugged makes it worse for what is charged due to how fast it was released, maybe PGI should have waited more to make sure everything worked and took time to add more value for the cost. On the topic of how Russ replied to Phil, I'm not going to candy coat it, but it was a butt hurt reply of some typical internet bickering and not very good PR. This whole thing could have been worded differently; sure, it was an honest question from Phil who is a longtime fan and who does take pride in everything Battletech. There was no reason to act in that fashion when there are many that have said the same thing on the Steam page, own up to a bad product and fix this situation.

Disgusting they think that these modes warrant the asking price. For 10 AUD more, you can buy space marnies 2, which has an amazing SP as well as co op modes with friends. Way to burn what little player base support your games PGI

Russ's behavior is not professional. That's not how you handle criticism, which was not even inflammatory. Nor is it how you develop or release product which, if it had been done properly, would have headed off the criticism in the first place. I also agree that Clans isn't replayable. I bought it, played it, enjoyed the Hell out of the storyline and cinematic cut scenes. 100%. But now that I am done, I'm not playing it again. It's a one and done game.

Sadly, I'm really not interested in game modes.

Looks like your comments paid off for everyone. We all got the DLC for free and if you paid there should have been a refund. Thanks for voicing what just about everyone was thinking.

Baffling decision. I hope the damage to reputation is worth the money they are getting now.

Sounds kinda like you bit the hand that fed you, but nothing you said was wrong. I personally think the modes are both useless to me. I'm not the average player, but I would NEVER have paid for either new mode. I agree with the Mech packs. I would absolutely pay extra for the FireMoth, Elementals, Cauldron-Born, Night Gyr, Pouncer, and several other mechs that may have fit the timeframe (second-line stuff). I bought many for MWO and none of them followed over. I don't even play MWO anymore (I can only play the same PvP so long). The pods don't make sense and I'm not paying for skins in a first-person game. Mod support is going to be what saves this game, if anything.

Once again - devs are crippled by a decade of supporting GaaS.

I'm happy to support mechwarrior games but I do agree these should have been free. Happy to pay for more mission more mechs etc also I want to be able to start campaign and keep everything I've unlocked I've done the times unlocking the same stuff so annoying. I want to max everything out.

Hard agree with this one. Maybe if they added this in for 5 dollars or along with a proper DLC. However i think at least one of these game modes should be free. Give people a taste of it and if its actually good enough, people will buy the dlc??? But no, they did this the worst way possible.

Really what this boils down to was PGI attempting to sell a game for $100 by breaking it down into poorly disguised instalments. Initial release was fine, Story was solid, and then they took the piss like this. The CEO personally getting pissy at you for giving an honest review on his shit sandwich does far more damage to PGI than it does to you. Frankly they put themselves into a hole here and they’d have to put in significant work to get me to jump back in at all let alone pay them and I suspect I’m not alone there.

From my point of view PGI did 2 steps forward but one and a half back. Clans is more stable than Mercs. But it feels more like an Arcade than a Simulation as Mercs is. The Storyline is way too short. And the most downside on Clans is the absence of the Sandbox from Mercs. Since i heard that PGI are make Clans. I was hope that they making further development from Mercs but they didnt. All they had to do is to see all mods and suggestions for improvement from mercs. And put them in to Clans, but they didn't. Lets hope PGI make a turn around and bring much more and better Contant to this Game. Otherwise this Game will die faster than a Headshot.

I only hear about people paying for it to help with development of the the future of the game down the road, not one person says it is worth 20 besides that one point. Then you got people shaming you for not buying saying they'll never release any pvp because you didn't buy this and like it. When the price is the only issue it is not the content added.
@angrytigermpcАй бұрын
So they basically forked Warzone (horde mode) in and cut up some campaign maps with FF enabled. Wow, so much heckin CONTENT!

I am a consumer but I am not a cow PGI can milk on the reg.
@danielbuehner4273Ай бұрын
The variants being added are not new content. The skins for those are just ported over from MWO demonstrating very little effort. You said it yourself that these exist within MWO that's also been made in the same Engine and the art assets exist so it was simply ported them over and implementing them into this released product. The DLC is not worth the ticket price being slapped on it for what little is being added that should've just been a content update. PGI and Russ continue to run Battletech as a license into the ground with poor presentation and implementation of many of the basic systems from the Tabletop or severe regressions from what Mechwarrior 3 and 4 had for core functionality. This goes with back to how they handled MWO as a crowd funding campaign while failing to accomplish the advertised goals. I'm still hoping that Microsoft will terminate the lease on the license to them and work on getting that license to one of the internal studios that were acquired at the end of 2018. Hell give the Battletech digital license to inExile - they did a hell of a job with the Wasteland games and could do a good job with this while likely making it more like Mech Commander than a Mech Warrior to start with as it's more akin to what they're used to.

I'm so disappointed that they cut relations with you just because you spoke up about this. That seriously changes how I see PGI. I like Clans, and I wasn't even that upset about this DLC. But treating you that way? Makes me not super keen on supporting them in the future.
