It was good to see the UrbanMech get some love. Insightful and informative. I have a preference for distance fighting, and may now pilot an Urbie, just to change opinions. I love watching your videos. Lots of good tips on gameplay, teamwork, and tactics that can be taken for many Mechs.

Light, fast 'Mechs with precise weapons are my jam, for all the reasons you outline here. I first figured this out with the RVN-3L carrying 2xERLLAS, but I soon moved to using the LCT-PB platform carrying one ERPPC and ECM. I've been considering mastering the Urbanmech tree, but this video has decided it for me-- especially with the turret-like 360 degree traverse. Thank you for a well made, concise, educational video.

Again, this channel shows what it means to be not only a good pilot, but a good player. Your opening remarks concerning people reacting to a players mech choice is sound advice - and sadly not incorporated by the majority of the playerbase. Keep up the great work.

This video appeared as recommended for me. Just started playing, with about 30 hours of play, and guess which mech I almost randomly chose to start off? Yup, Urbie. I've been trying all the possible builds on the three different varieties, and currently stuck with a 1 med puls / 3 sml puls build, trying to use mostly the same tactics you mention in the video sans LR sniping. Really happy to know I was getting at something. I'm a terrible player in most respects but hey, I'm trying :p Awesome video, subscribed.

+MoltenMetal Yea, I ended up picking out a RVN-4X. I've got a bunch of lights, but they're all brawl loadouts (ACHs, JR7s, EMBER). The only Light sniper I have is my KFX builds, which are pretty fun. The Ravan is the first IS Light Sniper I've tried. It's fun, but I really need to get my hands on the 3L/2X as well. Still trying to learn how to gauge the battle like you were. That was definitely the highlight of the vid for me.

The tactic being talked about has a specific, proper name: The Stalking Horse. At least, up until the part about rejoining the rest of the group... while the Stalking Horse will often regroup with the rest of the unit, they can also remain separate. Speed, mobility and stealth (when getting into position) are the three most vital factors, as well as a willingness to take crazy risks (primarily because a Stalking Horse is a lone actor, being followed by others when being a Stalking Horse is a bad, bad thing). ECM is extremely useful, as are jumpjets. Done well (which includes the coordination of timing with the rest of the company), it can sow complete chaos into the enemy because targets are getting hit in places of "safety" Personally, I prefer using the Arctic Cheetah for it, as it is almost purpose-built for the tactic, having high speed, plenty of jumpjets, ECM, and an energy mount on each side torso which are above the cockpit, giving the mech an extremely small profile if using cover.

Outstanding use of the Urbie! I don't mind seeing Urbies in my own team. The mechs I dread seeing in my own team are actually the Raven 3L and Shadow Cat. Most pilots of these 2 mechs seem to enjoy sniping at random targets while the team gets rolled over.

Yep, I love my urbie. I don't expect much from him, so it's a lot of fun to play. Some games I get 1 shot'd when I push too far trying for a cap, or a flank. Other times I get 800 damage. I've gotten 5 kills in one, but that depends on others opening up the foe. 40 alpha damage. 2 medium pulse lasers and 4 heavy machine guns, so sure, I've got to be on top of them before I do much good. But I have AMS, UAV and arty, so it's not like I'm not helping just by hanging out with the assaults until we get into a brawl. I do better with the urbie for some reason, than I do with heavier builds, but that's likely due to impatience. Push or die is my motto, and that's sometimes wrong. If I could build a tank that just slugs it out, toe to toe, that's the playstyle I like best.

I run my Urbanmechs all the time and consistently get great results with 300+ damage and at least 1 or 2 KMDD's if not outright kills. It's all about playing to the strengths of the mech and playing smart. The Urbanmech is not a superior mech in any category, but it is solid if you understand it's limitations and strengths and play to limit or exploit them appropriately. I actually had a match where I got 1100 damage and several kills with my Urbie, so yes it can be done.

The Urbanmech is often great for stand-off positions without being noticed. But nowadays, medium and lights are just far too fast and vicious for Urbanmechs to be running any sort of brawling build. Even one with an AC/20 would fire only one shot before being destroyed. I've seen many 'mechs have these changes overtime. The awesome used to be a fearsome LRM supporter back in the beta days, now it's a quite fragile laser/ppc boat.

Ive been having an issue that has driven my temper through the roof and made playing highly unpleasant. Ive noticed that whenever I get into the meat of any fight, as I prefer heavy-set brawlers, I instantly become the focus of the entire enemy team. This happens to regardless of there being allies nearby, I am consistently the focus, and I become SWARMED by FLOODS of bullets and missiles and lasers and I cannot brawl for very long. Ive tried the poking game in lights, and STILL I am focused, having to spend minutes at a time running from an endless barrage of missiles I have NO idea what Im doing wrong, or how to find this out, and the complete lack of game feedback for what it is Im doing that is making me such a ripe and delicious target no matter what mech size I play has made playing unpleasant, and my temper skyrocket. I can peek for only a second and I have to flee from atleast two missile-boats repeatedly bombarding me, and this happens even when there are others already peeking and firing over this ledge. How do I avoid being somehow magically valuable as a target? I dont know what Im doing wrong, the game does not have the means to show me
@memnarch1298 жыл бұрын
+Captain Princess Thats because Brawlers are ALWAYS the priority when the melee starts. Sniper and Poke mechs are alright at the close in fighting, but a Brawler can ruin your day REAL quick at close range. If the battle is sub 300 Meters you always take out the Brawlers first as they are usually designed for quick high damage bursts as opposed to sustained DPS. Take the usual Atlas build, AC/20, 3 SRM 6s, and 2--3 Medium lasers. This mech is dealing 56 points of damage below 300 meters, versus somthing like my Sniper Marauder which only does 45 with a Gauss and 6 Mediums. In the Brawl you ALWAYS target that Atlas first as its more lethal than me in the Brawl due to how long it takes for me to get out my damage. If your going to pilot a Brawler get used to always being the target at short range. What mitigates the damage sometimes is either another friendly Brawler or a coordinated team. With another friendly Brawler your enemy now has 2 to deal with. I have a alternate Brawl Marauder that uses a 20 instead of the Gauss. I join up with any Brawler assaults and help push with them or push a seperate target if need be. Now if you have a coordinated team, which from what your saying your Opponents are organized, then you get 3-4 of your guys to focus down one mech. MWO isnt about 1v1s, its about 2v1/3v1/4v1 where the odds are then in your favor. And against a Assault Brawler you HAVE to go 3v1/4v1 to come out on top. So as I said if you Brawl you are always going to be the target.
@CaptainPrincess8 жыл бұрын
memnarch129 But I wasnt talking about me being the brawler, I was talking about getting a feeling of being consistently targetted above others _no matter what I play_, even when surrounded by brawlers I realize its ridiculous to claim its happening but it certainly feels like it the way that enemies zero in on me quickly and persistently regardless of what Im doing
@memnarch1298 жыл бұрын
Captain Princess Well you shouldnt be in the brawl if your not in a brawler. If your in a more pokey/sniper, then stand back and let the brawlers do their job. I see a lot of people run up into brawl range when they are in non-brawl mechs. Another reason some draw fire is preceived "panic". If one of the other team shoots you and the others see you start to run or fire and miss they may think your panicing. A paniced pilot is a easy kill and gives them an advantage once your dead they are up on kills. Also could be some cycle targets to look for mechs with "Open" components. Its easy to eliminate or neuter mechs which are already open which makes the battle easier. MWO is very much about Awareness. Awarness of your enemies poition, their mechs, their loadout, your teams mechs, your teams loadout, your own weapon cooldowns, and how badly your mech is damaged. Not trying to say your a bad pilot but these are things players have to pay attention too or they get shot up REAL quick. May I ask what PSR you are in?

(I know I'm responding a year late to this.) What you are doing is a very similar strategy to what I am doing with my Locust -3S [but with a different build]. mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=108&l=2ec8b08c61060bde2fc0616ba5e3cf8ac09a9197 (Speed tweaked, no modules yet. And two days ago, I actually had a player ask me, " _How the f... did you pull that off?_ " when I announced I had a Locust with an ERLL.) Being relatively new to _MWO_ (I've played other _BattleTech_ titles beforehand), I chose this mech and setup so that I could explore the battlefield environment for cheap without getting too close. Threats are lights scouting the flank, and blindly running into larger mechs for a "deer in the headlights" head-shot (which has already happened more than once). My objective is to circle around to the side-or-behind the enemy and act as a short distraction to larger targets, turning them around momentarily so that allies can gain both target lock and fire without immediate retaliation. By using this, I am NOT looking for damage output (highest I've gotten so far is 285 dmg in one match), but rather personal accuracy, awareness and timing- I have little armor (FF, but same stock armor layout) and speed (108kph with speed-tweak), but a single strong out-ranging weapon. My next mech will probably be a modified Kit Fox-S as a close escort and AMS shield for larger mechs- mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=177&l=666d8292e868633d700db0452028776f6c40365d I, too, have been looking for a _justifiable_ Urbanmech build, but most of my ideas have been been based around ballistics (AC-2 or AC-5) rather than energy (2x MPL, 1x SL, 3x MG). The way I see it, a Cicada or Raven will make a stronger dedicated ERLL sniper.

This Mech is awful to begin with. I bought it, since this seems good on here. What i think the problem is, isnt just "a mech is good in the right hands" but actually Urbanmech is good after you spend STUPID amounts on him. This isnt a rant or complaint about the vid, more a comment that i assume plenty of people like me (fairy new/casual players) watch these videos, especially in a tutorial playlist, so maybe worth noting about how much your upgrades will cost (approximately, at least), since the cost of the mech is only a fraction of the cost after all the alterations you made. Again, let me stress that im not complaining. But i figure maybe its not such an issue after playing for ages, with lots of equipment left from other mechs in the past, but for others it can be an issue. But loving your channel. keep up the awesome videos.
@mcchuggernaut93788 жыл бұрын
I'm going to put your success with the Urbanmech down to pure pilot skill, since if we are honest here it is probably the worst light mech. But there is the fun factor, and the fact that people tend to underestimate and ignore Urbies. Also, being wrecked by an Urbanmech can shame and demoralizes the enemy, haha.
@sim.frischh97818 жыл бұрын
+Mcchuggernaut That´s the point he was trying to make: the mech is irrelevant, the pilot makes the difference. How you use what you have. Tactics, methods, timing. Also, luck, but that is a fickle one.
@Snugglable8 жыл бұрын
how do you get modules?
@roderickvannoorloos19678 жыл бұрын
+bradleysahn First you need to unlock them. In the game go to Skills - Pilot Skills, here you can unlock skills that are account wide, not mech specific. They can only be bought by using GXP, therefore never use GXP for increasing your mech skills unless you've unlocked all pilot skills. GXP accumulates at only 5 percent of the XP you earn in-game, it's a precious resource. Once you've unlocked the necessary skill you'll still need to buy the module in the mech lab! They are expensive, going for 2-6 million C-bills EACH. So don't feel bad about switching them between mechs, much like you'd do with expensive XL-engines. Good luck on the battlefield! (SnagaDance)
