What frustrates me is that some of their boxes have adaptive HDR, one or two have gigabit Ethernet, a couple have Netflix certification, but to my knowledge, none give you all three. If they do that, they can differentiate themselves from the rest of the Android boxes for streaming at the very least. And with a decent amount of RAM maybe for gaming as well.

I was able to move files from USB to internal storage as much as I can remember. I didn't try to copy files from internal storage two USB. I do have the box with me at this time as I am engaged in another video. Maybe I'll get the time later on.

Hi Nick, tanks for this full review. I just discover mecool and now I hesitate. I was going to get a xiomi box s and I don’t know wich choice is the best. I just want an easy access to netflix hd or 4K (don’t really have a 4K player, just a full hd benq projector wich can upscale in 4K), And also an easy access to my private NAS with kodi or plex for personnal videos, pictures And sound). I have a gigabit fiber connexion and the xiaomi doesn’t have rj45, just usb 2.0. The mecool has an rj45 but only 100Mb, I wonder if I could have maximum speed with an usb 3 to gibabit ethernet converter (wich is by the way my idea with the xiaomi). Both have 802.11n wifi wich, I think, will limit the speed. Thanx for your answer if you can help me, and sorry for my poor english (I’m french😅)

The firmware version of my box is 20220613. HDR doesn't work, Dolby Vision activates for a few seconds only at power on, then SDR all the way, even if I turn on Always HDR.

Yes it can play Dolby Digital plus once you switch your speaker configuration on your AV receiver from surround to front surround. However, it cannot play Dolby TrueHD and downscale to PCM. Maybe if you tried the latest version of Netflix Nexus it may provide some software decoding that can do it.

Cuando eso sucede, es una señal de daño en el hardware, probablemente debido a una CPU sobrecalentada o software dañado, lo cual no debería suceder según su nuevo diseño de enfriamiento. Hay un botón de reinicio que generalmente se encuentra dentro del puerto AV y que debe presionar y mantener presionado con una especie de palillo mientras conecta el adaptador de corriente para acceder al menú de recuperación. Now there is 4K videos, 4K HDR, 4K HDR AV1, and 4K HDR with surround sound audio formats. The Amlogic S905X4 chipset has some issues processing some of the surround sound audio formats such as a DTS X, DTS HD-MA, and Dolby TrueHD without the right firmware, decoders, and developer to put them together. Also the new X4 models and upwards are the only models that can play the new 4K AV1 format. So for this I recommend the TOX3 TV Box, and there is the new Ugoos X4Q Pro I'll be featuring soon. I have the new Beelink GT KIng II running on a new high-performance Amlogic chipset that I'm not sure how it will perform so you can also look forward to seeing how it does pertaining to 4K playback and surround sound audio.

You can do that via its USB three point report using an external hard drive. The box will read hard drives up to 4 TB without issues. If you are using a full size SATA 3.5 HDD using an adapter, you have to provide power to the adapter using a separate power adapter and not to attempt using USB for it to work. If you are using a laptop hard drive 3.0 USB port will be sufficient to power the drive.

@@johnridpeath1728 It's a Google certified model, it usually lacks hardware power and it's limited on ports. It usually has one USB port and no ethernet LAN port. Rarely the release new models so the hardware tends to be a bit outdated.

Make sure you change you box's resolution to 4K or else the app will be stock on HD. You must also be connected to a 4K TV for the box to detect 4K and the Netflix app. Also set it to Adaptive HDR. I can remember the box comes set to 1080p in the settings area, you need to change that.

Mecool KM2 Plus has not HDR! If HDR was put on only an 1080p Signal comes to my QLED 4K TV. Any Netflix and Co. comes in HD. If you put HDR off then you can enjoy in 4K UHD. Been warned and informed before you buy in!

OK so I will have to own up to what you are stating. Let me explain. The TV I tested this box on was a normal LG 4K HDR TV. That TV has since died recently, so I went out and purchased a brand-new 55 inches HDR TV with Dolby vision and HDR 10 to test my TV boxes because I never had Dolby vision testing before. What I am getting with the box connected to this new TV is Dolby vision only when you activate the HDR feature. There is no HDR in Netflix only Dolby vision. There is the HDR feature showing in the prime video but I can't test it for sure because the HDR feature always on and so is Dolby vision. So with all the back-and-forth I beg your forgiveness and I humbly apologize. You are right.

@@tvboxstop Hello here is a small excerpt from a review of another user. basically it is to say that Mecool so cheats its customers. The SoC Amlogic S905X4-B used in km2 plus supports HDR, so the problem is not the hardware, but the software. The above may be somewhat inaccurate, but what is accurate is that the box is not outputting an HDR signal at all. The TV is only receiving the SDR signal, but the box did a very odd trick of tricking to make the consumer think it is outputting an HDR signal. When you turn on Netflix or KZbin to watch HDR videos, the box correctly maps HDR colors to the SDR range, so HDR doesn't look dim, and the box tricks the app into saying it's outputting HDR content directly to the TV, but it doesn't. the box internally re-transcodes HDR to SDR content, and then outputs it to the TV in SDR format. On the consumer side, HDR is correctly mapped to SDR, so colors look normal and consumers don't perceive a problem, although that's not at all the contrast and brightness that HDR has. If a careful consumer checks the signal format reported by the TV, it will only be SDR. I don't know why they advertise that they support HDR, but instead of actually outputting HDR, they use this method to convert HDR to SDR. This doesn't look like a software design flaw, more like it was intentional. So if you have a modern TV that supports HDR and want to see true HDR through this box, don't buy this box, at least on the latest firmware (C2.1.4_20220613 and 20221107) they've been using this trick. According to the KM2 PLUS technical specifications provided by Mecool to dealers, KM2 Plus supports HDR10 and Samsung-led HDR10+ and another HLG without royalty. I don't own a Samsung TV, so I can't verify that HDR10+ works, but HDR10 definitely doesn't. Mecool has never advertised that the KM2 Plus is Dolby Vision certified, although in the firmware version C2.1.3_20220527 sent to the media for review, the KM2 Plus does include a Dolby Vision decoder. However, when your TV supports Dolby Vision, during the set-top box boot process, the set-top box will try to output a Dolby Vision signal for a few seconds, but because there is no Dolby Vision decoder in the firmware of the box at all, this is just a bug , don't be so naive as to think it can somehow turn on Dolby Vision, they didn't pay royalties for it, it's impossible. However, the hardware Amlogic S905X4-B does support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, but because no royalties are paid, the DV decoder is not loaded in the C2.1.4_20220613 firmware, and only porting after rooting can make this box realize all the claimed functions of S905X4-B, and considering Android With the TV's history of rooting and simply not having a custom rom community for Android TV, it's almost never going to happen. Yes I have used Nvidia GeForce Now on these boxes and they work seamlessly. I for some reason the app is not available on the Android TV play store, download an APK version and install it via pen drive. However, it is usually available on the ATV play store.

I hate these Android TV or hybrid Android TV boxes. I have the Minix gyroscope air mouse remote with keyboard on its back and I wanted to buy an android box with normal Android. I had A95X F3 previously and I got A95X F4 which had hybrid system unfortunately. After 2 months of inconvenient use it just restart itself when I turn it on. It can't boot the system. It's a piece of trash. Now I'm forced to use Android TV system of my Xiaomi TV and oh, boy, it's so laggy and frustrating. And it's Android TV OS so I can't even use ordinary KZbin app normaly. It doesn't display KZbin well except in Android TV version of KZbin. Is there any Android box on the market with normal Android, like on tablet, and not Android TV OS or hybrid wanna be Android TV OS bullshit?

The only manufacturer that has a recent model is Ugoos on the Ugoos UT8 model. There are some other boxes in the pipeline we shall wait-and-see when they arrive if any of them runs on the mobile version of Android

@@stepheng8779 Oh, boy. Right question. My first Android box I ever had was Minix Neo U9-H and for some reason everyone praised that Minix model, but my Minix box was so laggy. Everytime I turn it on it took like half an hour to finally stop lagging and become somewhat usable, but it still was laggy and it restarted itself sometimes. I even installed some custom Android 7 system on it after the years of frustration, but it didn't help. Couple months ago I finally destroyed it with hammer. I got my revenge for like half a decade of frustration with it. I probably just got some faulty unit and there was no way to return it back because I ordered it from Hong Kong and I would have to pay the customs again for the new unit etc.

Yep that's a better box and relation to RAM and internal storage. However, it does not have any Dolby vision decoders such as this box. All this box needs is a 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage model and it's better than the KM7

This box is a piece of sh...t, slower than Mi BOX. I bought two of them for 4 GB RAM and it runs KODI like it has 1 GB RAM. Wish I had never bought this

@@tvboxstop Two different models and a kipro and a kt1. The kt1 is perfect but the kipro I am about to add a fan to. I am annoyed that once I cut hole in top the name will be half cut out with hole saw so I am going to rename her on the side. I am of the opinion that MeHot might in red might be a perfect name for her now.

@@tvboxstop Some say it's a side effect of the WiFi so I am going to switch off the WiFi and try her on the satellite tuner and see if she gets hot. If she runs as normal with WiFi turned off then I either try connecting an external WiFi antenna or use a WiFi to ethernet adapter. Some say maybe a larger heatsink etc but I don't have thermal glue at present. I have already drilled neat holes on the right hand side which appears to buy some time before box resets. Last resort is the fan but I fear 😱 it will be the only real option. Why this brand has such heating problems while a generic or non brand doesn't? I don't know. I had a kiplus for 7 years and it was a generic device while it only had 1 gig ram so it was a little slow but it never got hot until last year after which I drilled holes in it and it became perfect again. This baby I got for free as it had damaged the external satellite and TV tuner board which I took from the kiplus and it worked perfectly for last year only to come back to heating issue.
