Never heard this term before, always called it a “lazy line.” Same principle for mooring bows-to? (2 bow lines and attaching the lazy line to a cleat at the stern?) I have a 4m speedboat usually anchored in the shallows but next year upgrading to a 20’ cuddly cabin and will need to start using the jetty. Am often solo and think bows to is easier for one person to manage, ie cut the engine and hop up on the foredeck while drifting in.

Gotta love a slime line. Pro tip, don't wear white trousers when handling the line. 😀

Agreed!!

Gardening gloves are a great addition for anyone who's going to be handling them. Slime is best case. Barnacles will really ruin your day.

Not quite made explicit is you don't untie the slime line, leave it made to the doc k. I enjoy your videos, because they're aimed at making decent sailors better. Keep it up, and thanks.

Interesting tip on the windward stern line. I always get my windward bowline up and on the cleat with a wrap so I can control my bow. The ease or sweat to get it on. Then proceed as the first half of the video suggests. Pros/Cons?

Yes Matt that's the "other" method. Skippers debate these two for hours. Ultimately it's whatever works for you. We use the windward stern line driving method with dozens of yachts in a row at The Yacht Week (where you need one agreed method), and it rarely (if ever) fails us, hence our affection towards it. But the method you mention is certainly not a bad one at all (esp. in light wind). The problem is when people try to combine both methods and don't do either one correctly. I personally like driving on the windward stern line because not relying on the bowline means one less reliance in the system (ie. it's simpler). It's very good in a crosswind. All things considered, we think this driving on sternline method is the best method in most conditions.

Sailing Virgins now I’m super excited to try this method out. Thank you for the thorough explanation.
