The graphics for both series has greatly improved, but as first-shooter games the concept is the same, i.e. you the shooter (whatever your character name is) are required to go in and do most of the work while the other computer-generated characters assist you.

The base game was a fantastic, challenging, and varied experience, Hell, this was the first game where I found infiltration/stealth missions to be actually fun. My only real gripe with AA being that the shotgun was utterly useless unless the Germans were kind enough to walk up and suck on the barrel, which would be a miracle considering their AI's remarkable accuracy at range. The only time I had to actually brute-force with save-scumming was Sniper Town, and that was only on account of me being literally half-blind. I also love the appearance of the relatively obscure Hi-Standard HDM pistol, though it was a touch beefy for a .22 in-game. The expansions, however, seem to completely disregard Allied Assault's strengths in favor of an ammo-starving, painful gauntlet of setpieces that do nothing except present agony to casual players. I hit a brick wall in Breakthrough at the mortar defense segment versus waves of panzers. The mortars were next to useless, as you not only had to figure out on very short notice how jank their arcs are, and then realize you don't have nearly enough bazooka rockets to deal with that, and compounded with the discovery that the rockets are utterly useless outside of a specific range. Spearhead, on the other hand, basically walled me out with the medic escort under artillery fire. Due to scripting behavior, I could not beat that segment within the 2 hours I tried. Honestly, I'd rather run my own version of those missions on a tabletop system than ever try again with either expansion.

I feel like the main focus of the expansions were expanding the multiplayer, with the campaigns being done as cheaply as possible. I never finished Breakthrough because of how utterly broken the game was, and it just wasn’t very fun.

@@capobilotti Nah, the base game was still great, it was the expansions being total bullshit at times. The reason MOH truly fell off was the decline of WW2 shooters popularity and lack of / too late for innovations.

Once a year, I play Mafia, Mafia II, pass all campaigns in HOMM3 & 4. Sometimes even HOMM2. I play C&C Gold with datadiscs. Or Warcraft 3 campaign. Or Red Alert. Or QuakeWorld. Or Diablo Hellfire & Diablo II. I've passed COD2 last summer, even if never nVidia drivers really ruin contrast in the game. So my eyes did hurt, but I still played the game.

I love this game, it was actually my second game that I bought back then. At that time I already knew where I had to go and how I could eliminate the enemies. Especially the part in Sicily and Italy like Monte Cassino were my specialties.

Honestly what I really despise in the core of my soul about this game is the fact that: 1. I had once instance of enemy dropping his gun, otherwise you have to scour for ammo and cheese your way through the game. 2. Enemies for some reason have laser-perfect accuracy, even with pistols.

@@Ryan_hey honestly the main campaign is better than spearhead and breakthrough; not only are short but they had a few memorable missions but they're horrible in terms of mapping. The missions using tanks are awful and some cutscenes in spearhead are just annoying. Sadly the expansions don't make any justice to the original game.

Find the file for MOHAA and change the name to whatever you want(I changed it to MOHAA.old). Then, change the file for breakthrough to "MOHAA". I don't know why this works, but it did and I've seen it confirmed on many sites.

Agreed. Its just stupid. In early CODs you kill entire armes on your own, but at least it feels somewhat realistic because of friendly npcs whilst this game felt just like going on a rampage, still loved as a kid

Medal of Honor AA (2002) was great, but the expansions are overrated: in objective comparison they suck just think of the endless spawn of enemies happening around you and behind you - the compass broken throughout the game - the parts where you just have to wait for the bombings to finish to move from one hole to another - the parts with the tank drag to complete boredom ...

I've read a comment from another person on KZbin that he encountered the same problem. I was upset and had to be treated with cheats to supplement my health, otherwise I would never have finished this data disc. Where's the mistake that I don't see first aid kits?
