In my opinion, you really have to see how the professor gives his/her exam, and develop studying methods (i.e. flashcards, outlines, visual diagrams, etc.) to how you can retain the information. This video is only good for rote memorization classes (i.e. biology, literature, psychology, biochemistry, organic chemistry), and not for math application solving classes (i.e. chemistry, physics, dynamics, statics) were you actually have to learn the processes and application to different scenarios. The video does give some good tips for class preparation and the range of possible topics discussed for a class, but fails in actually elucidating learning and retention techniques. The video title is clickbait arrogance for sure, on how he got straight As his "entire life". There's always that one course, class, or subject that a person just can't perform as well as the others, or there are other uncontrollable circumstances that a person can't control (i.e. family disorder, financial stress, lack of full academic resources, etc.), where one has to settle for a "catastrophic" B+ grade.
@godhailmaple6 жыл бұрын
if you aren't studying to actually understand all of the information then you aren't guaranteed an A. if you can happily say to yourself "I understand all of this material" then you will do well no matter what.

I got an B+ in a class because it required group work the whole semester and my group mates didn’t do anything and sabotaged the presentation. Professor gave contradicting feedback and TA gave me a really poor grade on a research paper because I wanted to do an argumentative style paper and used first person a couple times... getting a 100% on the final wasn’t gonna save my grade. Sooo fing upsetting when you do your best and it is still not within your control to reach your goal. And this class was recommended!! Soooooo pissed and upset beyond belief!!!!

How do you have time to rewrite your notes? Because when you get home, you already have tons of homework and other responsibilities so how do you rewrite notes on top of that? (Maybe this is harder in HS where you have class the next day so hw has to be done and is it easier in college cause classes and schedule are more spread out? idk just a thought. Not true for everyone of course.)
@yusufmehkri66627 жыл бұрын
R Ree unlike hs, in college you spend more time (at least you should be) studying than doing hw. Making the time to rewrite notes requires good time management skills that it takes people time to develop. Try to master that skill in hs. Also, it requires you to prioritize. If you really want that A, maybe you shouldn't go play basketball for two hours everyday or watch Netflix until midnight. Also, rewriting notes doesn't take that long if you do it daily for two reasons. One: you should only be taking a reasonable amount of notes. Two: you get faster at rewriting as time goes by.
@MedBros7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. Its definitely easier in college because lectures are more spread out for sure! But it was totally doable in high school for me because my high school class lectures were much shorter and less dense than college lectures. So while there might be more classes in high school, the rewriting notes should be much faster for each class. Also to save time on a tight schedule you can skip this for easy classes. Hope that helps!

You just have to do things that you like and show some level of accomplishment in them (national, international... and it's great if you do more than just school.... also you should get involved with your community in some way. Also prioritize getting good grades and scores. Unless you're applying to a direct med, you don't necessarily apply for science or "premed".

Is there anything your parents did that you think made you and your sister both so academically inclined? I have two sons and if there's something I can do as a parent to lead them down whatever path made you two the way you are, I'd obviously love to know.
@MedBros7 жыл бұрын
Hi there! If you want the honest truth my parents weren't really pushy about education at all! I didn't have a "preppy" childhood in the slightest! If you teach your children to be genuinely nice people, the rest naturally follows suit!
@rachel2qt1237 жыл бұрын
So I'm not sure if this is how their parents were, but I think the best thing you could do is just be supportive and put their education first. For example, I'm in college and the other day I got this great job offer and the only problem with it was that it was a big time commitment. Then, my parents told me that if this part-time job was going to affect my school work or put any extra stress on me AT ALL, then don't take it. They said they would provide me with more than enough money to spend and tutors if I ever needed help as long as I tried my best in school. I've seen from Puneet's channel that her parents are also very supportive financially too. She said that even with her job and youtube, she wouldn't make enough; thus, without her parents' support, her life would be much harder.

Attractive and smart I see! ;) In the beginning, you put a lot of emphasis on asking the professor what was going to be on the exam. Do you end up looking bad in the prof's eyes if you're constantly asking about that? Do they think your priorities are not in order because apparently "all you care about is the exam" and not actually learning the course material?
@MedBros7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a good question! Some people directly ask the professor if a concept will be on the exam and that definitely will sometimes annoy them. They usually aren't annoyed if you ask about what resources are relevant for the exam!

What if you do poorly or even Fail the first exam and then you see that content came from "recommended" resource, doesn't that make you lose having an A because this test brought you down so much?
@yusufmehkri66627 жыл бұрын
R Ree many professors allow you to drop your lowest exam score or they make it a smaller percentage of your overall grade. If you failed an exam and your professor doesn't allow that, sucks Haha
@MedBros7 жыл бұрын
Great question! I would say 99% of the time that doesn't really happen if it is truly listed as optional/recommended but not required. In my experience the worst that has really happened is that like 3 questions out of 50 on the exam could only be found in the textbook even though the textbook was optional. It's only really an issue with those tricky professors or ones who are so far removed that they don't realize what's on their own test.
