Mr.Deshmukh is proud of his daily trackers. I watched him often on Mojo Story. In all the interviews, he himself did not reveal any data details like demographics, numbers, wording of questions, regions and disclaimers. He simply exuded confidence on subjective topics like "popularity of xyz" as though there were one dimensional. Yogendra Yadav is the man of this season! Exposed the incompetencies of pollsters who seem to miss a big chunk of people at the bottom of the pyramid.

Those stocks ended up performing better than the ones selected by brilliant mutual fund managers. Just because the monkey got that right doesnt mean that the monkey has now learned finance and understands financial markets. And neither does that mean that the fund manager is no longer credible.

First thing first: It is globally acknowledged that stock market investments are risky, and market is heavily influenced by sentiments and other external factors. If you have invested in Stock market, you have already agreed to, and accepted, this knowledge when you signed the lengthy terms and conditions. So don't blame the Stock market or exit polls now. Tomorrow if the current NDA coalition breaks and the government falls leading to wild swings and a crash in Stock Market, would you then start blaming democracy? If you want safe investments, go for bank FDs. Stock Market is not for you.

Second: None of these pollsters ever advised people to go an invest in stock market. People did it on their own capacity. So, pollsters are not responsible for people's bad decisions. People should be taking advise from financial advisors before making investments. Had the results gone in favor of the pollsters, and the stock market had jumped to record high, would you still blame pollsters for "so many people made a fortune due to these exit polls"?

There were many actors out to earn a share of big buck from the Festival of Democracy. Main actors YY & PK. Supporting actors YD, Annamala, SP,..... Psephology is a science and it's application is an art. It is shock proof in so far as the outcome is concerned. Even when a Psephologist has performed poorly Psephology per se is not discarded/ criticised. Same is the case with followers of Astrology. Should an astrologer's predictions go wrong then the followers will consult another astrologer but never suspect the reliability/ authenticity of Astrology. Sometime predictions turn out right which is not fault of Psephologist (YY) but it is just the safety which is built into the body of knowledge, Statistics, which is the culprit. It is called Law of Averages. Yogendra Yadav is said to have hit the jackpot. Actually it is joke pot. Just fluke after a series of poor predictions in the last few years. This is his first time. Law of averages playing a big part. He is a Psephologist and he is yet to show his numbers behind his predictions. Reasons attributable to the final outcome pre Vs post results show wide mismatch. There are many observations that are yet to be addressed and answered. • Delhi, UP, Karnataka, West Bengal were not foreseen or sensed, even with reasonable confidence. Results show massive swing against all predictions/expectations • MP also is a case in point. It has clearly bucked the trend. It remained stayput totally uneffected by the changes happened around it. It was expected to trend similar to the neighbor states particularly UP & Rajasthan Questions to be answered are; 1. Given the similar political and demographic background why MP and UP behaved differently? 2. Why Karnataka has returned good numbers for BJP once again after suffering big set back just a year ago? 3. Why Delhi again voted for BJP? 4. What explains Mamata's continued good show in West Bengal? Basic question raised here is about the credibility of the Psephologist. Reasons identified for the expected poor performance of BJP, prepoll, were unemployment, price rise, Kisan factor, anti incumbency, poor performance/ governance etc which are not appearing in post poll assessment by the same person (YY) Therefore, even though the overall predictions have come good for YY yet the post poll preliminary analysis clearly points in different direction as far as the plausible reasons for the outcomes are concerned.

Absence of a rule in US probably is the best reason do it in India but yeah banning exit polls makes no sense. In anycase there is a ban on publishing the info until all polling is completed nationwide

It happens. Atleast all the pollsters got the direction right. Modi is still the PM with almost the strongest coalition government the country has even seen(1991 govt. was a minority govt.). in 2016, forget about Trump winning, all the pollsters got Hillary clinton winning by landslide, not that she would just win or the result would be close, it was that Hillary would win by landslide. It was Trump that won by a very comfortable majority(30 odd plus votes).

First of all journalists should develop a spine. How do you even consider Congress's allegations as relevant: 1) prior to election results they were dissing exit polls as a mechanism to legitimize rigged polls 2) post elections they spun it into a potential mechanism for manipulating stock markets. I understand journalists have their political preferences, but they should be able to call out nonsensical POV. The unprecedented spike in stock market can be attributed to investors having a clear preference for BJP over Congress. This is unsurprising since the Congress fought these elections primarily on a redistribution plank. They would tanked the economy had they won power (and pursued their poll promises).

Perhaps you do not understand internal validity. Had the opposition cared about the ethics of leaders suggesting to invest in stock markets, it would have raised the issue ex-ante. Changing the goal post as per results shows the opposition is not credible on this issue. Further, how the US SEC may have acted is a moot point, it does not regulate the Indian financial markets.

This guy can just lie through the truth. In Rajasthan, Bjp which contested alone got 49.2% - while INC+ which contested in alliance with BAP, RLP and CPIML, got 45.1%. So the gap is only 4% - which fairly reflects the fact that Bjp got 14 seats. He says the gap is 13% and thus Rajasthan seat numbers are a bit abnormal. So much for talking about data literacy. Just BS on voteshare being right ( it cannot be. If you had projected less than 2% gap, you would have struggled to resonably give NDA 320 seats, let alone 400)
