Its always great to see the roots of the birth of House Music versus just hearing of it. Great footage. Chicago is a very tough crowd. After beeing in the music industry 27yrs now, I see clearly that once you perform out of Illinois and you hit with whatever music style you make, its like then after Chicago accepts you. Thanks to Chicago where I was born and raised I have become a stronger Musician! Much love to all the House Music fans all over the world!

Amazing stuff! I love these old vintage reports....such a testament of time, capturing the 'zeitgeist' of the era. For me house music (and later hip hop) has brought different ethnic groups closer together and faster than any political, religious or government initiative could ever achieve. Add to that the MTV generation and you had a potent cocktail of social shifts. We should be so grateful and mindful of that!

How glad are we, that we lived in that time, we lived those classic moments?! I wish I had a time machine! My nephew loves House music, almost, as much as I do ;0) He said he'd love to have been around back then, with him now telling the stories that I do. The way I describe it, the atmosphere, the feeling, the humans, who we were back in the day, what we were all about, he says he's jealous & that club life now, just isn't like the life I describe. I feel for the young'uns. I feel blessed 🥰RIP Frankie Knuckles - Godfather of House. Tears...

This bring back so many memories. That's my guy the bouncer with the red hat on Donzelle (BIG DON) and James Delaney (RIP). The Power House became the Music Box (2210 S Michigan Ave) two years later in 1988. Big Don was the bouncer when it became the Box also. Don would always give me a ride home on the southwest side but he lived on the southeast side after leaving the club early in the morning. He was a cool cat. I heard Don passed some years ago but I'm not sure about that. Those were the days when the city was electric and the House Movement was really alive with the music and fashion.

@djbhe & @FMV That's Interesting! I am trying to understand exactly the Chicago nightclub scene from 1980 to 1990 According to what you've said, the Power House (1986-1987) became the new location for the well known Muzic Box in 1988 (formerly located on 326 N. Michigan) ? Please confirm. And Do you know who was the main DJs in the Muzic Box from 1988 until its end since Frankie Knuckles left the Power House in 1987? Did Ron hardy played at this very location? Thanks for the precious infos.
@djbhe
@djbhe 3 жыл бұрын
@@DynamicRockers Yes it is. The location is at 2210 S. Michigan. A guy I went to high school with who introduced me to Ron personally in 1988 name Maurice Jefferson was playing there with Ron then Terrance Harrison & Ron played there. I met Donzell through Maurice also He was Ron's personal Bouncer and a professional Boxer. AL Capone's Lexington Hotel stood across the street vacant at that time on the ne corner of 22nd & Michigan Ave.
@DynamicRockers
@DynamicRockers 3 жыл бұрын
@@djbhe Thank you so much for the info. that's gold. I get it now, it was confusing because frankie Knuckles and The guys from the Warehouse kind of split in 1982 to give 2 different clubs : The Music Box and the PowerPlant. So if the Music Box management moved to Frankie's Power House venue in 1988 then rebranded it Music Box, the circle is complete :-) Thanks, cheers from Montreal.
@djbhe

I don't know where House Music started at, I started dancing to it in the Paradise Garage in 1986, on King Street here in New York City. Larry Levan was playing this music on the most powerful sound system I ever heard in my life. I haven't heard one like it since. I have been to Paradise! Frankie Knuckles used to play in NYC an NJ, back in those days, and prior to then.
