Best part to me is Bullock and Swearengen's reaction to the airplane going over head ! They look at each other (staying in character) like "WTF!!??" and then pretend to hide under the table... lolz...

I was not sure what to make of the ending since there were so many things left hanging and I really would have loved to see another season. Bravo to all involved it was quite a ride.

THe whole ending of the show was a big screwed up mess....HBO royally screwed themselves and our buddy David Milch (alcoholic and heroin addict) - who created this, NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues prior, was already sticking his head into another project called "Joe from Cincinnati" which is my name and city - how's that for odd - and they started another great show at the same time called "Rome" and they literally couldn't 'afford' the costs - and it wasn't the cast - it was all the production and design costs which over ran their budgets and ruined both great shows.(TRIVIA - He had a heart attack the first season of NYPD Blue fighting with David Caruso, the red head from CSI - who actually made the comment "Who writes this shit?" - after arguing he let his assistant know to call ambulance. - Totally true - then Caruso left the show and the show won record number of Emmy's including one for Caruso - his only that i know of - biggest career mistake I've ever seen.

From history's reports, the two, Bullock and Swearengen work at times at odds and other times together because their longer term goal was for the town to prosper. Al because he was there from the start, and Bullock because of what he had invested in it emotionally and financially. So, the two, again from historical reports, basically gave each other wide-berth and went about their business. Bullock was no sell-out but too many times they had the same intent just not the same behaviors. IMHO. Joe

Actually, despite the Shakespearean dialogue and modern day swearing this series had one of the finest ensemble casts ever put together. For every swear word expelled they gave us some moments of beautiful bosoms. Every actor and actress were memorable including the loveable character actors who played Richardson and Jewel. Totally enjoyable series. The town sets, the acting, the characters, wardrobes of every actor on the set, the storylines -- impeccably done. The way it ended, however, was anti-climatic and proved that there could have been more. For my tastes the finale was unresolved. This was also Ian McShane's finest hour. My favorite HBO series have been "Carnivale," and "Deadwood." I hope both come back in one form or another even if briefly. Three seasons was not enough.
@joewilson99627 жыл бұрын
Well written review, but OF COURSE the ending was unresolved. The series was abruptly canceled so HBO could channel its resources into a show called "Rome." Milch had story boards for years.

@@brt1strrbb110 You'd be surprised how many people don't know. Hell, they'll go to movies like Gladiator & such, & the actors say "OK." And the audience thinks sure that's acceptable. No one said OK in Roman times. Some people don't fucking know. And when you watch a war picture they always toss hand grenades. Blow up buildings. Hand grenades are not dynamite (as you may know). They explode into projectiles to kill people. Not knock-down foot thick walls. So yeah wise-ass, I'm one of those guys. Continuity people. In hindsight I'm fine with the way Deadwood ended. Seems fitting with the show's theme. Things getting tied up in a neat little bow on the finale is a TV/movie contrivance. In the real life Deadwood, life just went on, and so it did in the for the characters on the show.

I like the heart he has as well. It shows itself I think the MOST, in his protection of Jewel, but even more so in his relationship and dealing with the Preacher. (SPOILER ALERT) To see how he watches him,echoing memories of his brother,and watches a vital man slowly become not only less human, but less Holy.This is a direct assault on any Hope that resides in his character.Some of the best bad guys do have a heart, which makes them ever more compelling.I think he shows it first for Trixie. dezza you are right on the MONEY - the production costs were outrageous for IT and for ROME. They just couldn't manage both and in the end, both great shows flopped out but not for the performers and the show's worthiness but for the lack of money HBO was willing to foot.I guarantee the actors would've taken less to continue or make an ending to both shows.Rome at least ends somewhat okay.Deadwood needed at least 1/2 a season or a 4 hour movie to wrap up well.Milch wouldn't do it.

Sopranos was brilliant and continued to be so for all it's year even with a few lags. But overall it stayed outstanding in acting, writing, directing, etc. The same would've been said about Deadwood but we must remember that Deadwood finally Died in the way we enjoyed it and when C*Sucker in Washington moved in, it became quite different and we wouldn't have watched it. So, take it with a grain of salt and again. HBO and Milch are equally to blame for this.Milch wanted his Joe Show, that is it!

Nice of them to leave O'Dell out of the "In Memoriam". Considering he was in A Rich Find and Unauthorized Cinnamon, the latter being one of the best episodes of the season, it's an egregious oversight. And let no one argue we didn't see him die because neither did we actually see Hostetler blow his black head off!! (in the words of Michael Harney's steve the drunk ultimate-racist fields) . . . nor the pinkerton who was shot in the leg, and Jen of course. But I guess I didn't realize so many people died in Season 3. Of course Chesteron was the one that was the most moving, and so authentic.

90% of TV viewers disagree with your opinion of the show, as do the Golden Globes, Oscars, SAG Union, etc., and what is funny is when he did his audition in South Africa, the casting person who read with him during the audition had no clue who he was much less that he was British. I think he pulls it off quite well. I've not heard him slip once. Of you, people like you and I who are Anglophiles when it comes to Brit TV, we know who he WAS and yes, he is etched forever in such shows, all of them.

I always assumed they did that as a safety mechanism, in case McShane couldn't pull the accent off. It's only in the very early days that they ever mention his English roots as I remember, so I'm guessing after it became clear he'd mastered the voice, they stopped discussing it.
