0:13 Looks like Media Hunter took some inspiration from Phelous for his title card animation.

Huh. Always good to get an outside perspective on a personal favorite. I tend to see it as a flawed gem, worth considering a genuinely good thing, not an ironic viewing experience. The animation crew was on point and the voices were showing their professional power. And I just remembered, the soundtrack was mostly written and produced by Graham Gouldman, one of the members of 10cc, and performed by the rest of the band minus one. Thus its authentic 70s pop feel. I'm only sad you skipped the high dive. That psychedelic dive sequence is the quintessence of the 70s.

I sat through this alone when I was a kid, and I enjoyed it, seeing this reminds me of it and I think its high time I give it a watch again.

Really??... the fact that you think Rene is "Reen" tells me that you've never actually watched the movie, and that you drag your knuckles on the ground when you walk. PLEASE stay in your moms basement.

I take no shame in admitting that this film has always been a personal favorite of mine. The animation might be a bit dated, the premise a bit weird, and the whole thing feels like one great big long music video...but I like. It's so very tongue-in-cheek. The music and animated randomness is a large part of why I keep watching. It's amusing in the simplest of fashions. ^^

Eh, I will never call it "so bad it's good". It's a solid 7, just keep in mind 70s humor is not nearly as edgy as what we get these days; pretty mild. The kind of jokes Paul McCartney would laugh at, way back when.

You really don’t understand handrawn animation. Sometimes the simplicity is best to allow the character designs to shine. It’s not random events. It’s Olympic events that were popular at the time. The movie provides a sublime calming getaway at a time where the opportunity to watch animation was very limited to usually Saturday mornings. Your comparison to Looney Tunes and Disney shorts are weird, like Looney Tunes is a bad thing. You keep on with your stuttering blocky CGI insulting the work of true animators.
