@@ShaunAndersen also a 3rd year. yeah you're never gonna feel ready for an exam again if you're like me. you adjust to it, though. if i may make one suggestion it would be to focus on using fewer resources more intensively. a lot of m1s hear about all the resources out there and feel like they should be using all of them, which spreads them too thin

Your being soo hard at yourself honey. Sometimes studying from a lot of resources is confusing and information just slips away. So stick with a couple of resources that work the best for you. I mean like anki and a combination of BnB lectures. Etc depending upon the content of the Block. We have a cardiovascular and respiratory block coming up so I'm sticking to text books, review questions. Will revise Anki in the leave because after the 3 blocks, we do have a Professional exam of all blocks combined at the end of each year. Stay healthy, you're doing the best btw!

Awesome video, little tip / idea for notion and the pass tracker. Instead of making new tables every time, you can make a “linked database.” This way you would have a master list, tags for each week, whether it’s a concept / video, and then just filter what you want to see on each page. I hope this makes sense, I used for my personal notion use and it was a game changer.

7:40 AHH Streptococcus species... Is the answer A? Since bactrican sensitivity test is to differentiate groups A and B strep? The choices catalase and coagulase is mostly performed to differentiate between Staphylococci species. Beta-hemolysis on the other hand can be both Staph and Strep since both have beta-hemolytic species. Ang the strep species that grows in bile is group D strep. Am I right? I love engaging myself in these kinds of topics. Makes me love to go to medical school even more. 😅

Man can’t imagine learning all those drugs and bugs as a first year, but I think you have all the right strategies in place. I would say it will get better with time as you get more efficient and better at absorbing information quickly. The only advice I would give you is stay on top of those cards. It sucks I know, but just do all your reviews first thing in the morning. That is your priority everyday. Once that is done you can move onto new material. If you can do this you rarely have to go back and review old material and you can just crush MCQs leading into the exam to solidify everything. Keep working hard man you will become an absolute machine in time and things will get better.
@ShaunAndersen4 жыл бұрын
You’re so right man 😅 I absolutely hated that I fell behind on ANKI. I will definitely be working to stay caught up from here on out. I do like feeling like I’m constantly seeing the material which lessens the need for review just like you said 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Great overview. Looks like you have all your systems in place. Being able to pivot and flex within your approach, means you have a working system. I like the idea of integrating external input (group study) earlier in the game -- it establishes the transition from memorizing to understanding stuff. And... get out a blank sheet of paper, write the words "In Tray" and stick it on your desk someplace. Abby can assist with this process. :-)

I love watching your weekly vlogs! I’m in nursing school which I know is so different from med school, but I have to take pharmacology! Something I learned since there is so much to know in pharm is to know the symptoms that are common for all the drug classes within a category but specifically focus on the things that make each class different. Example- most antibiotics have GI side effects but tetracyclines can cause discoloration of teeth in children. Hope this help! :)

Why did your school design their cariculuim that way instead of separating your courses into individual courses like for example, anatomy, biochemistry, and foundations of clinicail practice. Are your exam questions multiple choice? Just curious

Multiple choice! :)

You’re so lucky 😭 my exams are structured differently. We have essay questions, short answer questions, fill in the blanket and a few multiple choice questions.

Great video fam! Definitely feel the stress but you got it! Doing practice questions throughout out the block is a great idea but also making sure that you are not overwhelming yourself with the wealth of resources available. Enjoy Harry Potter!!

Thanks man :D and you’re right! I think right now I just want to get through so many resources but need to just weed them out and stick with a few!

1st. Yay on your A! 2nd. You are way to hard on yourself ! Remember u just started your 1st yr. Of course all that sciences is so so much! We feel for u. But focus too on how each week u have learned what u can improve on. Thats a good thing as well as u know where your weakness is. The program is probably set up that way on purpose. Plus all the hours are preparing u for residency and the long hrs there. Never feel defeated! U accept u will have bad exams and good ones. It will get better. Off the topic, how do u keep your place with out Abby so clean? Eat, take your vitamins and enjoy your ice coffee ☕! 😊😉

Thanks so much Sherry! 😁🙏🏻❤️ I know I can be hard on myself and, as a student, it’s really hard not to be! But I also know it really is a growing experience and I am implement meant to be here. I will learn from this exam and grow with the next one. I appreciate your continued support and kind words 🙏🏻 it means a lot to me! && I’m a relatively clean person! :D I also don’t have too much stuff in the apartment which also helps out a lot 🤣🤣

It seems as though your whole day/week is focused on and centered around studying, but you still feel unprepared and have material you don’t think you know well. Is that just how med school is with the volume of info? Or do you believe there’s deficiencies in your studying technique? To be honest it seems a bit disheartening to see someone be working so hard and for so many hours yet still not feel ready.
@ShaunAndersen4 жыл бұрын
I think there is just a variety of factors including productive time studying, practical studying of relevant material, and ability to absorb the material! I do think that I, in particular, had a tough time with this material. It was also just a tough exam and, in med school, you are just learning so much 😅
