Ambulance is free for Queensland residents. If we require an ambulance in another state we can also forward the invoice to the Queensland ambulance service and they'll cover it

Hello, if I have applied for Medicare, how long will I be eligible for Medicare?
@FeedThemCake Жыл бұрын
So I'm being sponsored for a skilled worker visa (482) and the visa will be put on my British passport. Since there is a reciprocal healthcare agreement that makes Brits in Australia eligible for Medicare, does this mean I do not need to get private health insurance?
@philrivers7533 Жыл бұрын
Why not pay for your own healthcare instead of the taxpayer?
@FeedThemCake Жыл бұрын
@@philrivers7533 I think the medical profession with the exception of surgeons and physiotherapists is a scam and I only wish to be covered for emergency hospitalizations in the event that I need to be stitched back together

@@FeedThemCake You don’t need Private health insurance, if you need emergency hospitalisation and surgery you will be covered under Medicare however if you wish to be treated in a private hospital for the surgery then you will need insurance. It is worth noting that if you get taken to hospital via Ambulance then they will 99% of the time take you to your closest public ED capable of dealing with you’re needs and that goes for any medical or potential surgical condition. EG I’m suspected to have Uro-Sepsis and based on my mxh might need the ICU, my local hospital doesn’t have an ICU nor a urology department, the ambo’s aren’t going to take me to my local hospital but will take me to the city instead. If the Ambo’s were to ring up and pre-notify like they would in that situation they would be told ‘no, we aren’t equipped to deal with this’. That’s not to say you can’t go to a private hospital ED via Ambulance, the Ambo’s will just have to ring and ask them to ‘accept’ you vs if you arrive by any means not an ambulance then they can’t turn you away but they may transfer you to a different hospital after providing the care that they can. Anyone with or without private health can go to a private ED, the fees for the ED are rebated through Medicare but you will have to pay the gap (Could be a couple hundred, depending) Any tests done such as Pathology and radiology are be billed separately, not to say you will receive one (Even if ordinarily bulk billed, same thing if inpatient- I’ve gotten caught in that before… although I’ve never had it for pathology, only ever radiology) If admitted you have to pay your excess if not already paid for the year in a previous admission. You would also likely see a fee from the surgeon (I’ve never seen a gap over $500 but it could depend on your health fund, that’s been for both major and minor surgery. Some may just charge the MBS fee making it bulk billed and I’ve certainly seen a fair few private surgeons that do) And Anaesthesia… your gap could be nothing if lucky or from a couple hundred to depending on the surgery, if it’s major, it could be thousands. All of the above depends on how much higher then the MBS they are charging but I believe there are laws in re to how much they can. I guess to sum it up I’ve had major surgery stayed at a private hospital for 2 weeks and paid $3,200 total (Only for Anaesthesia, $2,700- total 8hrs and surgeon for $500. No fee for assistants and that’s has always been the case for me no matter the surgery, hospital, never been billed for the assistant) No fees for pathology I had nearly everyday, no extra fees for the ICU or private room, no fee for the countless trips to radiology… I had Emergency surgery at a Private hospital and paid only $200ish for anaesthesia (Went through public ED and Private hospital next door via walkway, so I transferred) also no fee for radiology as radiology department is the public radiology. I’ve also had emergency surgery at a public hospital and within 6 hrs of me being in ED and 2-3hrs of finding the problem, a plan was made for what I needed, what needed to happen, a few other specialists came to see me including the anaesthesiologist and I was being put under, total cost $0. I say if all you want it for is for emergency surgery and emergency hospitalisation then it’s not worth it, you can still attend a private ED, pay the cost and then if needed be transferred to public for admission or surgery where you will face zero cost, you just may have to share a room with 3-4 people and have no door on said room but it’s really not bad. I do recommend getting ambulance insurance which you can take out on its own or through the state ambulance.. I don’t know much about it as I live in QLD and we are the only state where the gov. pays its and you get it nationwide for free, I wasn’t even aware it wasn’t a thing until recently. I hope that helps and isn’t super confusing!

Been living in Australia for 5 years. My friend had been rejected for a Medicare card. Its good for him to stop paying tax! It's a shame for the government. Will leave Australia and move to US and Canada.

Good, move to other countries, who cares. We have the best system and some outsiders trying to claim without having PR or Citizenship and we don't serve outsiders from our own government, bring your own money. Australia is not a charity organization.

Won’t get free medical in US and will cost a lot more than Australia. Maybe try Canada
