Hans, this was great. I had called in recently and asked about getting more info, this nailed it. As I am approaching Medicare age, very much wanted to lock into the pros/cons of G-HD plans. For me, my strategy will be to simply set aside $200/month into my own DIY health savings account. If need to cover G-HD deductible, it will be covered for the year in this way. Since I live in Florida, this is very much a no-brainer!!!

What are the best choices for those that move from state to state, it appears that the HDG may not be the best choice? If you have the supplemental high deductible plan G (HDG) in Florida and move to Nebraska where the HDG is not available what options are there? Also if you move from Florida to another state that does offer HDG how does your deductible factor in? If you had spent $1800 of the $2700 deductible in Florida and now move to another state and enroll in another HDG does the $1800 amount count towards the $2700 or do you have to start over with the deductible?
@CardinalAdvisors2 жыл бұрын
You can keep the same HDG going state to state. The policy works both places. Part of the deductible in one state and the rest in another state is ok. Medicare is Federal. If you’re moving to Nebraska, the regular G is priced low there

The billing by providers and facilities to the insurance company and the payout by the insurance company to those providers and facilities doing the billing may not be done in an orderly timeframe to track the $2700 deductible. Example is a patient has fullfilled the $2700 deductible by March 1st including a $1450 bill for services on March 1st. However that $1450 billed by provider to the insurance company for March 1st services is not paid by the insurance company to the provider until August 2nd due to delays caused by corrections to billing errors. Is that $1450 not factored into the $2700 deductible until August 2nd because it was not processed and paid quickly? If that is the case where the $1450 is not factored into the $2700 deductible then does the patient that had already paid out of pocket for their $2700 deductible by March 1st now has an extra $1450 to pay out of pocket until the insurance company pays out that $1450 to the provider? Is this correct or does medicare use the non-processed and not paid amount of $1450 billed on March 1st and factor that into the deductible on March 1st or is August 2nd the actual day that the deductible of $2700 has been met because that is when the payment of $1450 was made to the provider/facility?

What an awesome video! I turn 64 in October so I am getting close. I have watched a lot of videos which enabled me to want plan G. But this is the first video to talk about deductibles and pricing. You didn't just talk about it you actually broke it down and explained on my level making it so easy to understand. My son is "The Cajun Ninja" on You Tube and Face Book. He teaches Martial Arts, has his own cooking platform, his own "PI-YAHHHHH" Seasoning, coming out with a cook book in November, and a fish fry soon. His seasoning is in hundreds of grocery stores with more to come. He has over a million followers. I say all this because as someone who is getting older I am starting to take the medicare thing a lot more serious as I approach age 65. With that being said you should have a million plus followers too. You are that good in explaining it and breaking it down, but with that being said it does put me in the position of should I pay more now or pay more later. It is a good thing, but still a decision to make as I am in excellent health. So now I am thinking that maybe I could have that $2,490 deductible then getting the best dental, vision, etc. plans makes it even better. Just glad I have a year to figure it out, but "G" stands for Great, and it's the way to go for sure. Well I loved this video and will be checking out many more of yours. Great Job!!!!!!

Isn't it true that with the Plan G HD, you will only have to pay piecemeal of the $2490 deductible or the full amount depending on your usage of the health care system per year?
@CardinalAdvisors2 жыл бұрын
Medicare Part B pays 80% after the $233 annual deductible, you pay 20% with no cap on the 20%. When your 20% adds up to $2490, HDG pays your 20% for the rest of the year. Medicare Part A has a big deductible and that counts toward the $2490. The answer is yes.

To highlight what we saw with those numbers, the high deductible version is less costly overall even if you reach the full high deductible maximum out-of-pocket. The numbers in the area I live have the cost slightly higher with the Plan G high deductible if you reach the out-of-pocket maximum. But, on the average, you won't come close to the out-of-pocket maximum, so the Plan G high deductible is clearly the better plan. Especially true if you have an HSA with a significant balance.

Great video. I do have the following questions:, if anybody here can answer, it will be appreciated: 1. The deductible for the HDG is $2,490, so let's say I enroll in this plan, and then I have major surgery next month, and the hospital bill is $100k, this means that Medicare Part A co-insurance and hospital costs will cover 100% of this bill?, or Medicare will pay 80%, and I pay the other 20% until I have met the $2,490 deductible? 2. Let's say I have minor procedure done and the bill is $600, same scenario as above applies? 3. My doctor visits, I do have to pay the $20 copay, but what about x-rays- blood work, anual physical, MRI's, scan cat, etc, are they free of cost, or I am still subject to the deductible rule?, and pay whatever they cost? 4. If I choose plain Plan G, on scenario 1. above, then insurance pays 100%, but my monthly Premium will be higher, and I don't pay the $20 copay for Dr visits 5. If I choose Plan N, is same as Plan G, but I pay the $20 copay 6. How do I achieve the $2,490 deductible anyway?, by paying out of pocket first, any procedures done? If anybody can answer, thanks.

@KatieLibby1315 Жыл бұрын
I agree and would add, healthy and have $2,490 to spend on health care. Keeping in mind most are going to save thousands on HDG each year to cushion that $2,490.
@KenJackson_US Жыл бұрын
@@KatieLibby1315 The deductible is $2700 this year. I went further by comparing "healthy" years where I only visit the doctor once vs "sick" years where I max out my deductible. (I used premiums posted by CareFirst BCBS for comparison.) I was surprised to realize I could have *six* of the next ten years as "sick" years and still pay less overall (premium + out-of-packet) with HDG than I would with plan N! The comparison is much closer for MediShare 65+, which would be a slightly better deal if I have three "sick" years in the next ten. It's not an absolute comparison because we don't know how premiums and the deductible will change with time, but it's an informative snapshot. I'm absolutely going to sign up for HDG. The only question is whether I can find a reliable carrier that costs less than CareFirst.

Just went through this in NY. Lowest cost G plan: $282/mo =$3610 per year every year vs. lowest cost GHD plan: $68/mo which in a bad year is a MOOP of $3516 - a bad year on GHD costs less than the G plan. No-brainer the GHD wins 100% of the time. GHD vs. N plan was less of a no-brainer: My NY N plan costs $220/mo = $2866 (assuming no excess charges) which is less than the GHD bad year. So I maybe (depending on excess charges) save $650 being on an N plan vs GHD bad-years. But what if I have good-years? A good-year on GHD is 68*12 = $816 plus, say, $226 ( I use the G plan deductible as an estimate of a good-year co-insurance bill) which gives a reasonable good-year estimate of $1042. Thus, there's a savings of about $1800 (=2866-1042) per good-year on the GHD vs. N. One GHD good-year savings pays for about 63% of an N plan year. Whether or not you think GHD is a good deal depends on your health outlook. Say, in the next 10 years, you have 5 good-years and 5 bad-years. On N-plan that costs a flat $28,660. On GHD it's 5*1042 + 5*3516 = $22,790. If 6 of the next 10 years are bad years then GHD costs $25,264. If 7 of 10 years are bad: $27,738. Thus, I would have to have 8 or more of the next 10 years be bad to have any possibility of an N plan saving me any money ... and that's only if there are no excess charges. I chose the GHD.
