I am in Ohio and they do not slant charges above what Medicare pays , that is why I chose Plan N. Plan G covers that if your state allows up charges so that’s why I chose N. No need for that coverage.

Plan N 2024 in New York, the premium is $242.75 monthly. An increase of 12% from previous year. In just a matter of a few more years it’ll be over $300 a month, this is excluding Part D drug monthly premium. It’s just not sustainable. The only other option is Medicare advantage, and that has more minuses than pluses.

She went home against my suggestion and was only home 12 days before falling again and breaking the same hip and now leg as well again. I’m so angry and don’t know what to do. @MaryBethMcCoy
@MaryBethMcCoy Жыл бұрын
When you turn 65, you will have a 6 month window of time where you can enroll in any Medigap plan you want with no medical questions asked. So, no need to worry. Just make sure you do not miss this initial enrollment window and have a good broker like Brian help you select the best insurance company to go with. Most important will be selecting the company that has good financial stability and low rate increases over time since in your situation, you may not be able to switch companies later on down the road due to underwriting requirements.

@waynekaminski5438
@waynekaminski5438 9 ай бұрын
That is a loaded question. Let's say you decide to sign up for Medicare Advantage. You then approach your next open enrollment period (Oct. 15 - Dec. 7). At that point you could choose to switch to Traditional Medicare (government Part B premium plus Medigap policy and Part D prescription drug policy). Good News, since you have been in Medicare Advantage for less than a year, you will not be subject to the Medigap insurance underwriting screening. Underwriting is the insurance company's way to rank you for what risks you pose to the insurance company if they decide to accept your application. However, if you decide to stay in Medicare Advantage past your first year, and then at some future open enrollment period want to switch from Medicare Advantage to Traditional Medicare, you will have to go through the Medigap insurance company underwriter screening. This is when any medical treatments or prescription drugs provided under Medicare Advantage and any evidence that you have a chronic medical condition (diabetes, heart, liver, etc.) can be used by underwriters to deny your Medigap insurance application. At this point, you are then stuck in Medicare Advantage for the rest of your life. Had you decided to enroll in Traditional Medicare from the start, then you are not subject to underwriting. The rules on switching plans can get complicated, so the best way to understand the ramifications of your Medicare choice at initial enrollment is to discuss this with a licensed insurance agent. You can get more information through your county health department (there are free "Understanding Medicare" seminars) or by contacting a Medicare licensed insurance broker who will discuss all the ins and outs of Medicare.

Unfortunately I am finding that plans in South Florida are ridiculously priced compared to the rest of the US. I would happily sign up for Plan N at $100 or so a month but it's closer to $200. It's why well more than half of all Medicare recipients in these high cost counties end up on Advantage plans.

question when choosing Plan G. With Plan G, Company X charges $180/month, Company Y charges $160/month, and Company Z charges $140/month. How does one go about evaluating these three? Is it to just go with the lowest premium company because all three companies must provide the same Plan G coverage? What makes one company more expensive for the same Plan G? What is the value proposition in a higher priced premium? Use the same question for choosing Plan N (substitute N for G). I guess part of the evaluation is which is better, community rated or attained age Medigap policies over one's lifetime.

I'm in Minneapolis, MN. It sounds like Medigap Plan N is appropriate for me. I called my current disAdvantage 🤨 insurer to ask about traditional Medicare. I was quoted $237/mo. premium and separate Part D at $40. 😱 Armed w/ knowledge you and others have shown your viewers, I mentioned the differences between traditional vs. Advantage. Salesperson got real quiet. 😏 Knowledge is power. She's sending me info, but I'd like to shop around (despite having no previous issues w/ this insurer) to see if prices lower elsewhere. I'm relatively healthy and only see Doc 1x per year. No prescriptions. I asked about underwriting. She read me from their list of questions, weight wasn't one of them. That's my only drawback and was rejected for it last year w/ different insurer. I scheduled an appt. for last Friday, but our wires crossed. I will call office again to schedule person to person. Computers have not been my friend lately. 🥴

@@medicare365 Hmm. I got materials from my current insurer and of the several booklets, one was labeled Plan N. It's $200/mo. They didn't mention it on the phone, but why would they send me a booklet for Plan N? I noticed none were Advantage 😏 Nothing about their Plan D, which I will need to order. I'm just happy to be allowed to get on original Medicare w/ relatively easy underwriting questions.

@g0989
@g0989 Жыл бұрын
You have to consider how much the premium could escalate in future years. The lowest-cost plan when you sign up may not be the lowest 5-10 years down the road. Not a problem if you can pass underwriting to switch to another plan. But if you can't, your stuck with that Supplement, unless you want to go with Advantage instead. With only a very few exceptions, Supplements available in my ZIP Code are attained-age policies, which are the most vulnerable to higher premium increases over the years. Best to have an agent track historical premium increases with each Supplement company, to predict which company is likely to have lower premiums over the course of time.
