My husband had an event and 911 was called. The local fire department as well as an ambulance and EMTs came to our house. My husband was taken to the hospital and spent several days in the hospital. Medicare paid for the ambulance service but said they do not pay invoices received from the city fire department because they did not take him to the hospital. We were told that our supplemental plan G insurer follows Medicare protocols and will also not pay the invoice. We have to pay the invoice of $353.71 to our city for the fire department coming to our home. We wanted to let others know that should you have to call 911, you may have to pay the fire department for coming to your home. We live in Northern California so it may be different where you live.

If you get extra help ,do I have to pay for part D and what or how do they calculate what extra help pays for?
@MedicareSchoolКүн бұрын
That depends, in most cases being on the extra help program they will pay your part d premium for you and help with cost through out the year when picking up medications.

I switched part D prescription drug plan from wellcare. Do I need to contact Wellcare to inform them of the change?
@dublinbluetuneКүн бұрын
I switched from Aetna to Wellcare a couple weeks back. It took about ten days for my new coverage with Wellcare for 2025 to show up on my online Medicare account. I also received a letter from Aetna about 2 weeks after signing up with Wellcare noting the change and asking me to come back.

@anthonyscott5134Күн бұрын
OK now this is gonna probably sound a little sketchy but when you answered the question by Ali Kashef, did I understand it correctly in that if a person is on an advantage plan and wants to get on a med sup plan but can’t qualify for guarantee issue due to health issues if they are able to either get on a spouses employer, sponsored health plan or get a job with a company that has a credible coverage healthcare plan, once they’ve acquired that credible coverage they can then drop their part B, then quit that job or get off their spouses plan, then submit a L564 and then be eligible for a guaranteed issue med sup plan?
@MedicareSchoolКүн бұрын
That is correct, they would then qualify for a special enrollment period since they would have a new Part B start date.

On another event, you mentioned the “once in a lifetime” chance to enroll in a medigap plan without proving insurability. Does that mean you can never change your Plan G to another company because of rates or performance without proving insurability?
@gracebe235Күн бұрын
@vblynn3038…….My husband and I just changed our supplement plan this last October…..I didn’t know that we could change supplement plans at any time, not just during ‘open enrollment’ (Oct 15-Dec 7). Anyway, we did have to go through the ‘underwriting’ questions, etc., to be approved, in order to switch from our Aetna supplements F and G plans…..(I had F, my husband had G)……and go to a much lower premium with Cigna supplement G for both of us…..(the savings for me to go to G from F was equal to staying in F….so I switched, because F is going to start going up faster over time). Even though we had several different ‘things’ going on with our health, fortunately, it wasn’t things that were red flags for being able to switch supplement companies! It just depends on what you are dealing with, and if you can be approved by the company you want to switch to. I have heard that some companies are also a tad more ‘forgiving’ depending on your health situation…..but most are not. So, yeah. You could be ‘stuck’ where you are at, depending on what your health issues are. I am so thankful that we looked into it, I was really worried that we would not be able to pass underwriting, but we didn’t have the health issues that they were concerned about in the questionnaire. It never hurts to ask and find out.

You can still make changes, you would more than likely have to medically qualify. And if you have poor health or pre-existing conditions you most likely won't be able to make changes. So it's a matter of can you medically qualify.
@vblynn3038Күн бұрын
@@MedicareSchool Thanks. I'm already on Medicare and have a Plan G with Aetna but I am thinking of changing to Mutual of Omaha on my anniversary date in July. I can medically qualify, but my wife, who goes on Medicare July 1 does not, so the initial enrollment in a Plan G needs to be one we can stay with. Any recommendations? Thanks. Enjoy your events. God bless.
