Good morning Kaye: As always, thank you for the very informative videos. Also, for mentioning about our Canadian governments plan to limit and ban natural supplements. I was not aware of this. I looked up Bill C-47 which is now in effect and it is most definitely onerous and draconian. The new regulations deal with tax amendments and inflationary control measues among other things. The herbal remedies part was thrown in as part of this bill without any public consultation. Part of these amendments, at the discretion of the powers to be, will require herbal remedy manufacturers to go through the same exhaustive testing as is the case with drug manufacturing companies. (We've seen how well that works. Thalidomide comes to mind). There's much more to this, however said, the rules are very loose and open ended and subject to changes and additions by "Order in Council ", which means no public consultation, at any time as they see fit. It's going to become prohibitively expensive for natural supplements manufacturers to market their products, and they'll more or less be legislated out of business. This bill has the full backing of the pharmaceutical companies, no surprise there. They cannot have people running around thinking for themselves and taking personal responsibility for their own health, especially if it cuts into their profits. Again, more of our freedoms being stripped away from us. Thank you for stepping up and doing what you do and sharing the knowledge you've garnered over the years with everyone. Greatly appreciated. Finally had the opportunity to test Yarrow for its clotting capabilities. Was mushroom hunting and my daughter accidentally cut her finger, it was pretty deep and was bleeding heavily. We grabbed some yarrow growing on the trail and it immediately stopped the bleeding and also took her pain away. The most amazing benefit though (that I wasn’t aware of) was how quickly her wound healed! It probably could have used stitches but after two days it looked like a scratch. Never seen anything like it. Definite must have in any medicinal garden. I planted a very large medicinal garden for preparedness. It’s so beautiful and I absolutely love watching how it is evolving. I think everyone needs to grow the basics, not sure what’s co in but I do know it’s not good. Grow your own food and medicine.

Self Heal, Elecampane, ashwaganda, astragalus, licorice root, marshmallow root, comfrey, wormwood absinthe, mugwort, sweet Annie wormwood, holy basil, echinacea, yarrow, lemon balm, mints, feverfew, several sage’s several thyme’s, kitchen herbs (also all medicinal) valerian root, bergamot, calendula, borage, cleavers, nasturtiums, hyssop, chamomile, clary sage, lavender and I know I’m missing a lot. What I did was take a square 44’x44’ and I broke that into 4 squares where I have grass walking paths going around it so I can walk barefoot. I can’t even tell you how amazing and beautiful this garden is. Full of life. It was a lot of work but well worth it. Strictly Medicinal Seeds is an invaluable source for seeds. You can buy whole collections. I also go out and wild harvest things like elderflower, fireweed etc.

My grandkids are always bleeding from something. There outside battling nature. They now pick and chew it up themselves and apply it. Then go back to playing. They don’t even tell me till later. Once you have Yarrow, you'll always have Yarrow. LOL I transplanted ONE root a couple years back. I now have a HUGE patch of it. And it's now starting to grow up randomly. EVERYWHERE. It's like Holy Basil (Tulsi). Once it's there it will always be there. I'm happy to have both Yarrow and Tulsi all over the place. Love the kitties!!! EDIT: I have got a nice library going on all types of Herbal Medicine. It has certainly been an adventure. I just recently added a couple books from Dr. A.B. Howard. I had to print both books from a PDF because they are out of print. I have an old printer that came through like a champ. I put it all in page protectors and then into spiral ring notebooks. Thrift Books is also a great place to get used copies of amazing books on Herbs and Herbal Medicine. I'd love to see more videos on this!!

I have not heard from you (at this name) for awhile! Good to hear from you! My yarrow grows up randomly in the lawn and gets mowed. I hope this little yarrow rock garden takes off. It will be a challenge to grow in such thick crabgrass, etc. I'd love for you to make me those books. I am hopeless at getting things like that done. I bought a new printer a year ago, because the new printer I bought before I left LA didn't get used for a year and the heads turned to concrete, and it's never been connected to my computer. I need a secretary and a housekeeper, so I can garden and make videos, haha. God bless you.

@@Latebloomershow Boy, I could sure use a housekeeper, for REAL. You have no idea. LOL I haven't been myself. It's a long story. It started in January. VERY long story. Also, my oldest just got out of the hospital. She was in there from June 16th to July 5th. She had emergency open heart surgery on the 19th of June after they got rid of her pneumonia. Again, a long story. My heart hurts. God is holding me up. That's the only thing I know to say. My mind and heart have not been in a good place at all. The storm we had a month ago distroyed my garden. But, it will all work out. I have hope with that issue.

It won't be gone, but censorship is going to strangle us getting to the truth. Glenn Greenwald in a Tucker podcast last night fights relentlessly for 1A, wherever it is being infringed. He says Canada is pushing it harder than any place and other countries are watching to see how far they can go. They all want to control their citizens. Our constitution and Bill of Rights guarantees our freedom however current administrations around the world (except El Salvador presently) and pushing censorship of internet.

Good Morning Kaye - We all need to learn this lost art and skill to make our own medicines. I used to have some yellow yarrow in my yard but I think only the white and pink varieties can be used medicinally. Need to research if you are on blood thinners as this might not be the herb for you due to it's clotting properties. Wishing you a blessed day and week ahead..

Yes, just at the end of editing, I looked up that pomegranate yarrow I mention in the video and saw there are a ton of colors, and they say it is prohibited to propagate it. Therefore I imagine I don't want any of those mixing in my yard. As much as I love color, I'm sticking with "common yarrow." Pinned!

🥰 love finding Tennessee gardeners. I’m a little west of Nashville. I started more medicinal plants this year, they are still little but I’ve been able to make tea. Going to try tinctures next. I have anise hyssop, feverfew, chamomile, Borage, Bergamot, yarrow, lavender, lemon balm and probably a few others…lol plus attempting vegetables in this crazy TN weather. I would love to turn my front yard into mostly flowers, less mowing the better.😊

Be careful! I made the mistake of allowing wild lettuce to grow and it has taken me years to get it back under control. It’s a wonderful blessing to have but it can take over. I have tried to harvest it before it goes to seed.

Well done video Kaye- now sit and enjoy a cup of tea! I have valerian as well as yarrow as others have said. Their leaves are very different, similar looking flower-valerian flower has a sort of vanilla sent. Adding medicinal plants every year, need some feverfew. Migraines can be controlled by eating a leaf or two a day. It’s bitter like aspirin I’ve heard. Anyone know more about this plant?

Yes, it was a poppy! I did not spread cosmos down there (although it may wind up there as I have it in the flower garden), only wildflower seeds. And there is another that came up abundantly in the meadow, Goldenmane Tickseed, with yellow petals and reddish center, so cute! Did you see it? I have more than 100 yarrow plants growing in my driveway, front and back, in a dirt and stone driveway. I also have comfrey as tall as me taken up 2 yards. Also Valerian thats 8' tall everywhere

Zone 3. Yes the comfrey goes dormant for winter. It's the first plant to come up in spring. The bees love it in bloom. I don' know how to send a plant by mail. Restristions for certain states. I love the smell of their flowers

Yes, please. Any videos on herbal medicine , tinctures will be helpful. I've begun making tinctures. I believe I started in the fall. I'm doing extracts also. I got 10 half pints of cowboy candy last night, plus a large jar of the brine left. I waterbathed it along with the candy. When I have jalapeños, I'll have enough brine ready for several jars!! I finally found a rosemary plant and still payed a terrible price!! I got it planted and watered in just before a storm. I hope it does well. Now I need to find some spearmint. When I trim my Lantanas back, I transplant them over my yard. I did 2 different places last year and they are looking well. I try to plant native, that don't require a ton of water.

Just saw this video for the first time today. I liked and subscribed. I got interested in medicinal plants a couple of years ago. I started using wild lettuce for pain, and it has made a huge difference for me. I planted yarrow seeds this spring, and I got one healthy plant growing. I used it last week when I cut a finger. It did seem to help, but I didn't use it correctly. From here, I'll see if I can find more of your videos, but I wanted to tell you that I would like to see more like this about other medicinal plants. I have read that Fever Few is good. I planted seeds, but none have come up yet. Thanks for the yarrow info.

There is a bill in Congress. So, it could happen, but might not. As for Canada, I think they passed the bill. See my top pinned comment. Also, look up the history of John D. Rockefeller. You will be shocked.

The other thing I would’ve liked to known is, can I use Yarrow that is already dried that is planted outside can I save those flowers? It would be hard to wash dried flowers that are already going to seed to get the bugs out.

You would not need to wash the dried flowers. I doubt there would be bugs, nothing to keep bugs interested. And I don't actually know how potent the dried flowers outside are. I will have to ask my friend. By the time I got back from Idaho beginning of July, all my flowers outside were dead and I didn't think to take them.

Loved this, Kaye! My yarrow transplanted easily in fall here in Arkansas. I have dried some yarrow and feverfew just in case. Currently harvesting echinacea flowers, dont have enough to get roots yet. Mimosa tincuring now, along with lemon balm, tulsi, and chamomile. I grew all from seed except the mimosa.

Kaye, thank you so much for these instructional videos. I'm a long time gardener, but still I learn so much from you. I went online and bought the book you recommended. The one thing I've never been good at is making my own compost. I have big gardens so I have bought bulk compost for a number of years. Do you make any of the compost you use or do you buy it?

I have a 3 bin compost area, and I do save it all, but I'm not good at making it. I dump everything in there and expect it to be good at some point. The first bin we emptied, when I had help last year, and put it on the side garden where all the volunteers came up (see yesterday's "I was filming a July Garden Update and this happened," video) So, it must have been good, but because I didn't ever turn it, it was big chunks, not soft at all. For convenience I get some forest mulch in bags (no chicken manure) that is very reasonable at Lowe's. I'm almost out. I also buy a truck (7 scoops) load of "garden soil" from a local nursery once a season which has some manure, sand, a little compost and topsoil all mixed together. I just don't make nearly enough compost for this big operation. So I must supplement. I just started a bin down in the lower garden to toss all but the diseased leaves.

Well, they are in the same HUGE plant family Asteraceae (Daisy), but, common yarrow has a white center. I think Fleabane looks more like Feverfew. Now, sometimes plant apps get it wrong. If I have any doubt, I'll take 2 or 3 pics and see if the result is consistent.

Feverfew is great too! My feverfew is larger than my new Yarrow. I’ve used both in tea :)

If you use 100 proof vodka, it should sit 6-8 weeks. If you're using 80 proof, it is best if it sits 8-12 weeks.

I had to look that up, as I'd love to be growing Valerian! It does look similar but says it can get to be 5' tall and has a sweet scent. Yarrow, no scent and only as tall as you saw in the video. I had NO idea about the cat ear muscles! My senior cat cannot hear well at all now. Patch (who your kitty sound a bit like) can walk in the room when she is sleeping, lounge on the floor and she will never know, unless she is looking right at her and sees her moving.

I grow Valerian and it's very distinct from yarrow. Different leaves and the valerian will perfume your whole yard! The flowers aren't as compact as yarrow.

I have moved to Mississippi (from the W.coast ) and have been missing my hours in the garden because I fear the snakes and fire ants here. @Kaye Native Kentuckians pronounce it like Yar-n Yarrow. Not to be rude, maybe they say it different in Tn. I learned the hard way when I first moved to Ky in 97 from Fl after 27 years and Upstate NY for 16 where I lived as a farm girl and Florida was never home. However I had married a Native whose family farmed the sea [which I loved], unfortunately after 4 children in 4 years I became the punching bag in 85 so I high tailed it out of there while raising my children as a single parent. I thought I'd never get back to my roots, come to find out my mothers family tree showed her ancestors landed in Ky 300 years ago from England, my dads from Germany landed in dutch country Pa. Home is where the heart is, I wanted to be in touch with my roots so desperately I moved up here Beverly Hillbilly Style without the shotgun. In the back of a dump truck with my 2 sons while my 2 girls rode in the front with my driver brother, the truck was tarped over with the exception of one tiny corner area, enough space for the 3 of us to sit cross legged indian style. It was a long ride and took us 29 hours at 50mph, I forgot to mention 2 -80lb dogs and 7 kitties came with. Ya just gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes Kaye, so don't you fret none that your yarrow area isn't that big, in time it will Bloom with you as a late bloomer :). Have a great weekend

Yes, I know I do that. Thanks for the feedback. There is good and important information in there, but some folks just want the nuts and bolts, so to speak. I don't write a script, and I just try to be as informative as I can. No, sterilization is not necessary as you are putting 40% alcohol (80 Proof, at least) in that jar, just a clean bottle. I haven't read anywhere that you need to sterilize the amber dropper bottles. Of course, it would not hurt.Thanks for the kind comment. Blessings to you.

They never had their internet shut down and the French government has never made threats or even discussed shutting the internet down. I am Canadian and live in Canada. I am a budding naturopath and runs in my family. The Canadian government has no interest of banning supplements and banning/shutting down naturopath clinic/practitioners. The federal government is hoping to strengthen its regulatory power over natural health products, such as vitamins and homeopathic medicines. The federal budget proposes amending the Food and Drugs Act to extend powers by the Protecting Canadians from Unsafe Drugs Act (also known as Vanessa’s Law) to natural health products. Their reasoning is that these changes would protect the health of Canadians by enabling regulators to take stronger action when health or safety issues are identified with natural health products on the market. There is no mention of banning or shutting anything down in Canada.

You aren’t “drinking “ it. You are taking one or two DROPS at a time. That’s all. You can use other methods but they are not as strong or potent. The amount of alcohol you are taking is equal to a ripe banana. Yes there is alcohol in a ripe banana and many other fruits.
