Great shots with that Go Pro camera. I always wondered what was under the water there at 'low tide'. Looked like a lot of fun. I too have been there in the winter when the water course is full up to the top and the slimy, slanted rocks grant no quarter. Have pulled 1 body out of here, jammed under a log pile in the last pool above the final falls and assisted in one rescue of a person who was washed over the rim of the same pool, smacked his head and broke his back. 442 (Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Squadron) came in to hoist the guy out in their Labrador Helicopter, tipped a tree with a prop blade and had to make a forced landing on Plateau Road at the chain up area. Close call for them. I know of one other person who died in here as well but there must be more. I think the tales of 'good times' from the low water times of late July and August don't include warnings and people are drawn in at other times of the year when the water is much more powerful although all 3 instances I mentioned occurred at low water times.

Lived in Courtenay for 24 years . Been to the Medicine Bowls many times , great place but as another poster mentioned , very dangerous too . I don't recommend wondering around the bowls in the winter or early spring , the rocks are very slippery . I took my dad there once years ago in early spring , he slipped and pretty near fell in . The force of the water in the early spring sounds like a jet engine , incredible force . Great video , thanks for sharing .

Awesome spot! I miss the bowl sessions from back in the days. I haven't been there for about 15 year's now but still remember it like it was yesterday. You never forget a place like this. So cool to see some GoPro footage from underwater too. Wish I had mine back then. Thanks for uploading this vid. It brings back some great memories of my younger days!

people die here... make sure you know what you're doing the rocks get crazy slippery and there's more often than not, big log jams you don't wanna get stuck under. Beautiful area, just be careful...
