Orthopaedic Examination:
Range of Motion (ROM): The full movement potential of a joint, usually measured in degrees of a circle.
Palpation: The act of using hands to examine the body, especially to feel the muscles, bones, and joints.
Gait Analysis: The study of how a person walks, often used to identify abnormalities.
Strength Testing: Evaluation of the muscle power around a joint.
X-ray: An imaging test that uses radiation to create pictures of bones and joints.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): An imaging technique that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of soft tissues, such as muscles and ligaments.
CT Scan (Computed Tomography): A detailed imaging test that provides cross-sectional views of bones and soft tissues.
Joint Aspiration: The process of using a needle to draw fluid from a joint for examination.
Orthopaedic Physical Exam: A comprehensive assessment of the musculoskeletal system, including observation, palpation, and specific tests.
Functional Tests: Specific movements or activities that assess the functionality and stability of a joint or limb.
Orthopaedic Reflexes: Testing reflexes to evaluate nerve function and muscle strength.
Bone Scan: A nuclear imaging test that helps diagnose bone diseases and conditions by detecting areas of increased or decreased bone activity.
Arthroscopy: A minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a small camera to examine the inside of a joint.
Stress Test: Evaluating how bones, muscles, and joints respond to physical stress, often used for diagnosing fractures.
Tendon Reflex Testing: Assessing the reflexes of tendons to evaluate the integrity of the nervous system.
Ligament Stability Test: Tests to check the stability and integrity of ligaments in a joint.
Manual Muscle Testing (MMT): A technique to evaluate the strength of individual muscles.
Posture Assessment: An evaluation of the alignment and positioning of the body.
Sensation Testing: Checking for nerve function by assessing the sense of touch, pain, temperature, and vibration.
Nerve Conduction Study (NCS): A test that measures the speed and strength of electrical signals in nerves.
