As "I" see it, I AM is the All Inclusive Narrative, like an open valance ready to be populated by any number of electrons. That an "I" can perceive "I Am" should indicate that whatever the notion of "I Am" is, That which perceives it is prior to the consciousness of it, and "IAm That", as well. However, even That is a story. Remember what the Bible says about the Word in the beginning? Also, along these lines, and as an aside, I found it fitting that Adam apparently means "The Namer." Are you more, or less confused 🤔 now? Hope I haven't jiggled the snow globe too fiercely. Robert Powell has some great takes on this, too. Relentless self-inquiry & equally relentless refusal to harbor thought were legs up on "my" path. Sending you love vibes, fellow seeker.

@@asafeplacepodcast2690 Yes, the I Am, Beingness, Consciousness, is also called the Guru. And the Absolute, called “the light of Awareness” by Nisargadatta and Brahman by Advaitans, and called “The Deathless” by Buddhists, is beyond the I Am. Nisargadatta also calls it Parabrahman, beyond being and non-being. Technically raw non-dual awareness is one with parabrahmn but streams from it. Consciousness/Beingness/I-am (and everything else) is made of this streaming nondual awareness coming from the Absolute, parabrahman. This is confused by the fact that Buddhists and Nisargadatta call the I Am “Consciousness”, but many advaita folk reverse that. The streaming just referred to is called sat-chit-ananda by many advaitans. Technically if someone is calling chit “consciousness” then they are committing to saying the I Am is awareness and Brahman and Parabrahman (the Self) are made of undifferentiated consciousness (sat-chit-ananda), but that seems backwards to me. Chit should be translated awareness, and consciousness is more complex, is Beingness, the I Am. I’ll post in another comment a pdf of Nisargadatta’s view of the mind and spirit some Indian prof made, tmrw or so when I find it. If one dwells beyond the appearance (the world including self, made out of sat-chit-ananda and is impersonal) in the Absolute, in the Mystery, then memory even can stop recording, but other signs are present that time passed. There is no beingness in deep sleep, only the light of awareness, a pure ball of sat-chit-ananda undifferentiated. Thats what the Absolute is made of. And then the phenomenal world, the appearance, is sat-chit-ananda dancing therefrom, and the two are connected. The enlightened remember (sort’ve) deep sleep. Finally, and this is the only part I have never known directly, they say individual consciousness is connected to Universal Consciousness. But both are transcended by the Absolute. The Absolute/parabrahman/The Deathless/Self/Shiva beyond being and non-being, beyond time and space (God the Father, or the Godhead depending upon which Christian mystic, and “No-thing” per Tony Parsons who actually is NOT saying anything truly original). Then from that everything in the dream is made of it, as a temporary dancing (Shiva dancing the world into existence). Non-duel awareness/Brahman/the light of awareness/sat-chit-anada) is the impersonal substance that makes up everything (including Consciousness, the I Am, the Guru, Christ). In Buddhism there is no word for this. They do not talk about it and it is not one of their primatives. They go straight from the phenomenal world which is empty to The Deathless / Unborn / Uncreated as Buddha sometimes called it. If advaita is not-two, then Buddhism is not-one (even in Advaita there is a way in which not two implies not-one and everything is non-existent and at least ephemeral). Greg Goode has a good article about the moment he realized the buddhists werent saying the same thing. That all phenomena is empty. You could say their word for sat-chit-ananda is “emptiness”, but really they are saying it is not independently there in any way. Walking without a walker. Seeing without a seer or a site. It’s all a happening to them, a verb. First step is to become aware of one’s own consciousness. Then to see phenomena is made of awareness there are two (plus 100 others) good ways. One is the tantric method of seeing that if a sight is made not of shapes and colors but just colors and there is no line between your awareness of the color and your sight of it and the color. Everything IS awareness. Never can find the line between awareness and the phenomena. The other is seeing there is no self via self-enquiry. (Final comment: I do not like the translation of Atma to “Self” at all. In the dictionary they dont just fail to match; they are mutually exclusive to the third or fourth alternate). Letting go deeply is THE SAME THING as seeing these illusions we carry around. Clinging and illusion always arise together and are one thing, and empty. More than you wanted but was nice to get my thoughts on this in one place and forget them (because none of this is about intellectual understanding). Thanks and God bless 🙏🏻
