Atrophic vaginitis - Post menopausal dryness (vaginal atrophy).
If you are feeling drier, with the vagina without lubrication, resected, being difficult to maintain intercourse (dyspareunia), or feeling burning, itching, know that it could be due to a lack of hormones.
Atrophy of the vaginal mucosa occurs in environments with little estrogen, a fact that always happens during menopause, but also at other times in a woman's life, such as postpartum, for example, or in treatments for diseases such as breast cancer, endometriosis... .
Itching and burning are common symptoms, but the main thing really will be the intimate part being dry. In addition to sometimes preventing intercourse, or at least making it less pleasant, genital atrophy also makes women more susceptible to infections, discharge and changes in the smell of the vulva.
For treatment, obviously lubricants are very important, but what really solves it are the hormones, which are normally placed in the form of a vaginal ointment, but also exist in the form of vaginal pills.
Another possibility is systemic treatment, with hormone replacement therapy, HT, however, in these cases you should also consult a cardiologist to see if you are able to use this type of treatment.
