Movie studios had wanted to make a movie about Desmond Doss for decades, but he and his family constantly denied them permission because they feared his story would be manufactured into a piece of fiction. The only reason Hacksaw Ridge was made was because Mel Gibson promised Desmond's family that he would be as accurate as possible and that he wouldn't omit Desmond's faith, which was the reason he refused to carry a gun

They didn't trust the demons over in hollywood to accurately represent the man or his faith that they actively and consistently attack? I wonder why lol. I'm glad his story was told, it is an insanely important one.

Funniest. Guests. Ever. On a separate note I owe my life to an 18D from 7th group in Panama 1990. I was stabbed twice in the chest just inside the door to the PX by one of the vendors that always set up outside. One of our medics was there but he was new and freaked out I looked up and saw him flapping his hands and knew I was gonna die. I got hot all over and was thankful for the cool tile floor. Things were getting dark and then he walked in. Their barracks was literally 200 feet away. He gave me a sternum rub and told me not to die while he put a chest seal on and kept me talking. I was taken by ambulance to Coco Solo naval hospital, had a chest tube inserted (which actually hurt worse than getting stabbed) reinflated my lung, stapled up and a few hours later I was back at the barracks. Looking back 33 years later the funniest part was that I went to the PX for underwear but they didn't have my size.

Jesus, I can only imagine the things going through your head watching a medic freak out while you’re going down. Especially while he’s flapping his hand’s shrieking‘oh god oh my god oh my god.”
@robertsmith243210 ай бұрын
@@JasonSmith-gn9zj the first thing I thought was holy crap that guy was right! Before I went to Panama I had a few days leave and a guy I knew at the highschool football game said I was going to die there. This was just after the failed coup attempt where Noriega slaughtered those that participated. My second thought was I should have joined the Air Force.

12:54 I’ve only seen this done one time, it was in an ICU, pt was had been on the vent for several days. Patient developed a spontaneous tension pneumothorax. You could see it on the monitor, his rate was slowing and became very difficult to bag. Luckily, there was a pulmonologist in the ICU recognized what was going on and did a needle decompression to relieve the pressure until we could get a chest tube placed.

Out of curiosity, is the only answer in a situation like that going in with surgery to repair the source of whatever's leaking pressure (I guess one or both of the lungs), or can you leave the decompression needle in until something like that repairs on it's own without much issue as long as the needle doesn't come out?

This is not correct. For starters AF1 is just a call sign and not a specific aircraft, but the two VC-25As currently in service are modified 747-200s not -400. They were built before the 747-400 came about.

Funny, I was CSAR in the Navy and the ParaSAR in the AF is totally diff! The Nav say's you will do anything/everything (cause of manpower/space). The Nav say's you will do any/all job's, as we deam it. I had 15 diff job's and had to master all of them (as a pro should). The AF say's you will master ONE!...But that mastery is along the lines "OF" that job! Good/Bad??? Yes and no. Example: Prior to a CSAR, you will be rated (not associated with CSAR). We are Jet Mech's, Airframers etc...Then,...you must be a crewchief in a specific AC. PJ's are area specific (great at it) but don't have to be a "one size, fit's all"! I cheated the system in the H-1 comm and asked if our medic's wanted to be crewchiefs (book say's yes...they can, but wasn't done). I broke that stream and trained our Medic's to be crewchiefs as well. It was an overwhelming "yes" for them (check in the block for next higher grade). It was like asking an AF PJ to be a crewchief as well.

If I recall correctly (& its been like 10yrs or so since I was CLS qual'd), needle chest decompression was done in the 2nd(?) intercostal space, so b/n the 2nd & 3rd space. You line up w/their nipple & stay away from the bottom of rib b/c that's where the nerves are 🤔 So glad I was never in a situation that I had to do it. Only had one Medevac & it was for a car accident in Kuwait while we were enroute to Beurhing before rolling north. Kuwaiti soldier rolled his car 5x & someone flagged down our convoy b/c they knew we carried medical supplies. I ended up doing the IV & somehow got the stick despite having only done it in training 7mos prior. Guy's scalp was peeled back & had some brain exposed but he ended up being ok from what we were told. Our whole team just went on auto-pilot & did everything we'd been taught. It was pretty nice knowing we knew what to do & helped the guy out

I have some medical training. In a crisis, so much is guesswork mixed with experience and training. I have consulted the SF medical handbook on occasion. The childbirth section is pretty good. As a chuckle, outside my formal training, a lot is just remembering what medical personnel did to me when injured and what I picked up listening to them treat other patients when in the ER several times. Paying attention and asking questions at the doctor's office or dentist. So, not a medic. But I can figure out when t9 call 911 or not and stabilize until pros alive. It was a fun series of clips and the reactions were great. I warn people: Regular Blood donor. I am going to be a hard stick. Might want to pick another vein. I would love to see more of these. BTW, the Japanese instruction for skydiving exit position is: Act Like Shrimp.

When I went to the hospital cause I thought I broke my ribs the x-ray technician had to take two x-rays cause apparently as he said "you have extra long lungs" which I didn't even know was a thing. My nephew has allergies so I had to learn to use an EpiPen in case something happened when I was watching him. Also, broke my collar bone at school during recess running to direct an ambulance where to go after another kid got hit in the head with a bat playing softball...the funny thing was the hospital let us be in the same room so we could hang out together. He got staples and I got some figure eight brace that the orthopedic doctor would tighten on visits.

My favorite medic story: In February of 1969 we were on a walk through the woods when a bunch of RPDs and PKs decide to shoot at us. I was the Forward Observer for a light infantry company so I thought I needed to go up there to see what was going on. I dragged my RTO along, he was not thrilled. We hit the ground in the beaten zone and I began to determine a coordinate for where the fire is coming from. Not long after I hit the ground some idiot fired and RPG at us. It hit the ground between me and platoon sergeant Crosswhite. Crosswhite began rolling around and screaming while holding the right side of his head. Medic Jack Lis went to him immediately. I thought what I was doing was important so I kept at it. After about 2 minutes 105mm rounds began to fall on the area where the fire was coming from and almost instantly the fire stopped. The medic got out a syringe and flush Crosswhites's ear and a chunk of wax shaped like a cocklebur came out. He felt better. All the casualties were on the other side.
