If you have played stainless steel mod you would notice how this mongol army is around a third the size of a full stack golden horde army. Way more fun in vanilla in my opinion since you get more options for defending against them.

do you prefer crossbows or archers when dealing with them?

It has been a while since I was playing so take this with a grain of salt. I prefer the crossbows but the archers are easier to recruit at any settlement when you are desperate.

Any skirmishes will do. If you have unit with Armor Pierce, it's highly preferred unit to choose.
