I'm going to make this handsome cake for my soon to be 10 year old son's birthday party. My question is what color fondant do I use for the 50/50 fondant and modeling chocolate mix? Thank you! ❤️

This is really amazing, thanks so much for sharing. You are very talented. Could you possibly provide a list of utensils that you use and the ingredients needed so that I can have a go? Thank you

Fay Mayer Thank you! For ingredients, I usually use a standard mud cake (any dense cake is great for covering in fondant, because they hold shape really well). I didn't keep track of the utensils I used, but I might start doing it in the future, thank you!

Dalton Cupcakes What was that plastic sheet you used to make the brickwork? Thank you!!!
@DaltonCupcakes169 жыл бұрын
It was a fondant impression/imprint sheet that I got from my local cake decorating supply shop. You can usually find them in packs or even single sheets. I think it's called a cobblestone impression mat.

Great cake! What sizes are the top and bottom layers? I'm not very good at dimensions. Is the bottom about 8"x8" and the top 4"x4"? Or 10x10 and 6x6? I'm going to try it tomorrow for my little guy's bday party and I'd love to have it look close to yours. Well done!

+Tim Zado Thank you! I can't remember exactly, but I think the bottom tier was 9" x 9" and the top tier was 6" x 6". (I don't actually have square cake tins, so cut them from a large rectangular cake pan that I have). And good luck making the cake for your little man's birthday! Feel free to tag us on Facebook or Instagram with any pictures you take of the cake. Love to see what other people create!

What is the advantage to using 50/50 modeling choc and fondant versus just fondant? What about gum paste?
@DaltonCupcakes167 жыл бұрын
Personal preference and modelling chocolate usually firms up generally quickly.

how many days before would you start prepping the cake and fondant for the party???
@DaltonCupcakes168 жыл бұрын
The turrets can be prepped up to a month in advance, but would recommend at least making them a few days in advance to allow them to dry. The cake can be baked a few days before as well (depending on the type of cake) and frozen, if you are short on time.
@vanessagarcia49708 жыл бұрын
will freezing the cake make it dry?
@DaltonCupcakes168 жыл бұрын
It will depend on the type of cake. I primarily use Mud Cake (a very popular, dense and moist cake in Australia), which is improved with freezing. If the cake is wrapped properly, it shouldn't be an issue, but if the cake does become dry, it can be moistened with some simple syrup.
