I was listening to this in the office in the City of London but I just had to shut the computer down and walk in the small church yard outside with its trees. Except the yard seemed to go on a lot further than I thought, and at the end were some thatched cottages and peasants herding pigs and goats. They marvelled at my strange black attire but i dare no0t tell them of the glowing box the size of a goose with all worldly wisdom inscribed inside, and also my smaller glowing box, the size of a gooses egg, upon which once by eldrich magick could you hear even acorss fo Frae Francia and beyond, was now more silent than the wild remote crossroads stake where they customarily bury witzards who talk of syche strange things.

Technical note: The female singers in "Dies Irae (Sequentia) - Aurora Surgit, Alessio Randon" are very distorted (sounds like clipping) on the forte passages, first audible (painfully) at 14:32. Occasionally the men also distort on loud passages, but it is most noticeable and painful when the women are singing loudly. It's a beautiful piece, and it's a shame to ruin it.

Finally! Some authentic medieval tunes of that era. No Fantasy RPG, battle fantasy music tunes. Listening to this while reading books about that time really captures your imagination of the medieval world. Much as I dream of living medieval, it actually was a terrible time to live under the feudal system. Diet,nutrition and healthcare of that time was bad. If you pop a pimple and it gets infected - you are pretty much RIP.
@spmoran47033 жыл бұрын
I agree with every word that you wrote . We still look at history through Rose coloured spectacles . And the modern Medieval and Celtic music definately does not sound like the traditional , it has electric instruments and talks about the fairies at the end of the wood . That was often not the case with the real music.
@stephenhoward68292 жыл бұрын
For what it is for, the "Fantasy RPG, battle fantasy music" is fine, background music for gaming, where you are more concentrating on the game and what everyone else is saying. For pure listening, or, for reading/studying, THIS is the correct choice. There is a place for everything, it is up to us to know what is best for our "Place" of-the-moment.

I would say its medieval inspired/theme music, for real historical medieval music you would have to look at reconstruction projects and surviving pieces, collections such as Libre Vermell de Montserrat, Cantigas de Santa Maria, you never look at modern composers for historical music, which is straight impossible. Also, one has to notice the difference between versions as the interpretation and liberty taken by the performers are vary, to my own experiences there are more people taking a rather liberal approach with infused rock elements in French and German music from high medieval ages, this trend is relatively rare in early medieval reconstructions as they are unheard of to many musicians today, examples like "Ai vis lo lop" and "Miri it is while sumer ilast" is the best example of such approach available on KZbin, this is possibly because of the form of music, Cantigas and Libre Vermell are court music that usually doesn't draw much attention form folk metal bands, thus fewer modern reinterpretations.

If I believed in reincarnation, I'd be sure that I lived in that era. Medieval music is so nostalgic for me. I adore it

Reincarnation is a process in the evolution of the soul. Christianity removed this important bit of information in order to regain control of the masses. Yes, Jesus had many incarnations before he became enlightened .

Clicked here expecting to hear disjointed sounds without any harmony. Pleasantly suprised. Human spirit and sensibilities truly transcend time and space.

The best, at least for me, is the Cantiga no 1, at 52:33 As I know, the king of Castilla wrote all the cantigas.

Never realized how much of an influence Middle Eastern culture had on Medieval Spain, you can hear it in the music.

Great compilation! I only wish there was a better quality version of Dies Irae. Every version I find on KZbin is the same one (that blows my eardrums out).
