This is SOOOO interesting! Not many medievalists actually weave their own. But I must confess I'm getting slightly distracted from the subject by how handsome you look in a collared shirt and a vest! :)

I found your process really interesting to watch. Totally impressed by how methodical you are and how well you have set up your work space. I see there is a follow on video, so I am looking forward to seeing how it ends up. I hope you got the job -or a better one.😊

The sleeves seem a bit tight on version 2...and as for the gores...my experience is to start at the hem, and undo those side seams up to the point where it is comfy around your chest

I think the fabric is just prone to wrinkling after another layer. I remember the sleeves feeling much better around my upper arms after switching out the arm gussets for bigger ones. And the side seams were the last thing I sewed up on the mockup. 👍

hi there. KZbin finally suggested this video to me, so my comments are late. I'm not sure if you're like me and still in progress on this or not (/stares at a warp on my loom that has sat ignored for months) but so far, my method of securing cuts in woven fabric has been put masking tape along the cut line. The tape keeps the fraying at minimum while you're manipulating the fabric and then i remove it as i sew. I've been using french seams ( *in theory* the raw edge is encased and won't fray). I have a pair of chausses that have held up pretty well...downside is that depending on your fabric, it can be a bulky seam. Also....your weaving is beautiful! bonus points for that awesome dye...i love that color.

That's a great idea with the tape. I'm not sure it'll do what I need it to for this project, but I'll have to test it out sometime.

If your fiber is wool...you can Full it and it will not fray. You will in fact have to pick a strand loose

I've never fulled wool intentionally before, so I didn't want to try it on this particular project, but it's definitely something I want to keep in mind to try on something smaller.

I was wondering if you could use regular fabric for the gusset and gores to decrease bulk, and if you thought about woven thickness. Did you use the fusible interfacing to secure your woven cuts?

I don't want to mix fabrics for this project, mostly as a challenge to myself to actually weave it all. The woven fabric is fairly thin for the weight of yarn I'm using. It's comparable to the thickness of a lightweight denim, but obviously much less densely woven, so it's pretty manageable. I did a test with fusible interfacing, but I liked a different result. I haven't finished weaving yet (last warp, I swear!), but I'll be securing the cuts by stitching some cotton strips on either side of the cut line with 2 rows of small stitches. This maintains the flexibility of the fabric and anchors the yarns to a commercial fabric.
