►About the Games
MediEvil
MediEvil is an action-adventure video game which was first released in Europe 9 October 1998 and North America on 21 October 1998 and in Japan on 17 June 1999. It was re-released on the PlayStation Network in 2007.[1] The story of the game begins in the year 1286, when an evil sorcerer named Zarok plots to take over the kingdom of Gallowmere with his undead army. During the battle, a charlatan knight, Sir Daniel Fortesque, led an army that managed to kill Zarok; however, Dan was in reality struck down and killed by the first arrow fired in battle. 100 years later, Zarok reappears and casts a spell over Gallowmere to awaken his undead army. However, he unwittingly revives the corpse of Dan in the process.
MediEvil 2
MediEvil 2 is the second instalment in the series and serves as a direct sequel to the first game. It was released on 19 April 2000 in Europe and 30 April 2000 in North America. The game takes place 500 years after the first game's events and follows series' protagonist Sir Daniel Fortesque's revival in Victorian era London as he attempts to stop sorcerer Lord Palethorn and Jack the Ripper's plans to terrorise the city by raising the dead. Dan is accompanied by Winston, a ghost sidekick, and Kira, a mummy princess who serves as the player-character's love interest
MediEvil: Resurrection
MediEvil: Resurrection is the third instalment in the series and is a re-imagining of the first game. It was released as a launch title on 1 September 2005 in Europe and 13 September 2005 in North America. It was re-released for the PlayStation Network in 2008. Similar to the first game, it is set in the medieval Kingdom of Gallowmere and centres around the charlatan protagonist, Sir Daniel Fortesque, as he makes an attempt to stop antagonist Zarok's invasion of the kingdom whilst simultaneously redeeming himself. Unlike the original, Dan is accompanied by Al-Zalam, a genie whose powers were taken away by Zarok.[5] The game features updated graphics and a variety of voice talents, including Tom Baker as the narrator and the Grim Reaper.

I really love the original MediEvil. There’s just something so magical about it that’s hard to explain and has never quite been recreated. It’s dripping with aesthetic and it more than makes up for it’s graphical shortcomings. Even back when it first released it didn’t look great, but it still became one of my favorite games as a kid in spite of it and still holds up today. It’s like a game that knows exactly what it wants to be and executes that idea nearly perfectly. It feels like you’re playing through a fairy tale or something. The Order 1886 and Bloodborne have always given me similar vibes to it, just with an obviously darker tone. I wish they would make another game with a similar vibe to this one.

I'm a massive fan of Medievil (hello from the Medievil message board!), great video and some excellent editing as well as explanation for older and newer fans alike :D If I had any mild criticism of the video it's that at time you spoke so quickly at times that it was hard to pick out every word you were saying, though this didn't happen often, and quite possibly it might be just my own problem :P

Gosh what a great watch, Iove watching doco's on memorable games I grew up with, modern games can't hold a candle to the games I hold dear, there to money orientated and remakes when done right are awesome, I love both the original and the remake, and the unlockable in the remake is just utter fantastic! the sequels and whatnot are ok but the original is gold, I would absolutely love to see a medievil with rpg mechanics - 'LV 59 Boomerang Arm with plus 2 tickle ability?' think about how funny and great that'll be 😅👍 love your retro run down Awesome job

I did not even know that there was to be a Medievil 3 for the PS2. Hell I didn't even know there was a Medievil 2 until I looked it up back in high school. Which makes sense because I was confused as to why all chalices ending for Medievil 2 was a bad one for Palethorn being the monster replacement for Zarok. After hearing the plot for Fates Arrow on here it totally makes sense. It just suck that the next game would just be a remake of the first game for the psp. Still it was a good game. Looking forward to the remaster.

Great Video! It's good (and unusual) to see a fair and balanced assessment of Medievil Resurrection -way too much hysterical and irrational hatred for that game imho. I am very intrigued to see what format the remaster takes..... Would be great if they remastered the first two and threw in a port of Resurrection as a bonus.

So Ressurection was forced onto the PSP as a launch title, only given a year to start and finish development, and next to none of the original team was there for the day to day development. Sounds like it was a miracle that the game was as playable as it was.

I just picked up the MediEvil remake for PS4 a few days ago and I'm having a blast. But I really wish they included the second game as well. Maybe even the PSP game as an unlockable. Being able to unlock the first ps1 game is great but it's essentially the same game. Oh well... I'm still really happy to play it. Maybe I should try to get the second game and play it on my PS3.

I have such fond memories playing Medievil, mainly the first one. This doesn't need to be a franchise, but it deserves to be remembered as a classic hack n slash game. Truly a great, classic game. Indeed, long live Sir Fortesque.

@@hakureikirisame1173 it was not really disappointing. As a long time fan of the original, I myself can say the game delivered a *remake.* However, the new coat of skin looks great, but looks a lot of the original charm and atmosphere the original still has.

Great game, they HAVE to maintain that creepy atmosphere in the remakes though!!! Don't make it to cartoony the creep factor is what made it sooooo awesome. Also the lack of the hall of hero's in the second game was a mistake. It was so sad to see all the broken statues and desecrated stuff from the hall. That was supposed to be his 'eternal' reward... Guess there is no such thing! Would have been cool if they had involved more Egyptian mythology as in he's fighting to spend eternity with the princess in HER version of Valhalla or maybe they could have gone back and forth. I don't know but the professor just giving you guns seemed lazy to me.

You know you’re a Medievil fan when you won’t play on a console unless a Medievil game is available on it. I’ve played and own every game. I purchased the PSP just for Resurrection. I refuse to play the PS4 until a new Medievil game becomes available. I have my doubts about the remaster, but I’m hoping Sony will pull their finger out eventually and make something newly immersive.

I hope the remake doesn't remake "resurrection" and focus on the 2 games without that forced humor with that sh*tty character that live into Dan's head. I remember the city with those immortal "little sisters". Scared the shit out of me ! It's maybe nothing but the menu of Medievil was a genius move. It launch you directly into the game. The OST was insane too. Hope both are remade perfectly with the remake. Great video btw, gotta watch other videos from you !

Given the latest trailer used footage of the original game as comparisons, I feel it is safe to say it is a remake like "N. Sane" and "Reignited" were for Crash and Spyro. Interestingly, the team the worked on the original game had the SAME concerns, but I hear that now they are Quote/Unquote "Relieved" with what they've seen so far.

I think that they were going to remaster resurrection but when they saw the comments saying please don't remaster resurrection in the trailer comments they decided to start from scratch and that's why we haven't heard anything since december 9th.

I hope so ! I loved the atmosphere of the first medievil. Resurrection made the game less "unique" with that constant humor. I hope we'll have a gameplay video for the gamescom but if we have, it will certainly be a resurrection remake.

Just finished the demo ! Remake is based on the original but no gothic (or almost none) atmosphere sadly. They choose the easy cartoonish one. Still can't wait to play my childhood fav' game tho !
