See my attempts for a 19 MINUTE WORLD RECORD: / noobkillerroof
It was a 9 month long journey, but finally the 20 minute mark has been reached.
This run features the new rune smuggle glitch that I found in 2022. It's an easier alternative to the extremely difficult DGS (dragon gate skip). This glitch lets us skip 6 entire levels, as we do not have to collect the 2 dragon gems and the dragon armour in order to beat the game.
The run also includes several other new finds and optimisations that allow the time to be lowered considerably from the old 23:40 WR that I set in 2021.
In this run I am pushing the limits of how low the time can go using the rune smuggle. With the original DGS method there is the potential to save an extra 15 seconds -- if you are lucky enough to get it perfectly.

After watching the History of Medievil Speedruns video, I was absolutely stunned how broken Medievil is and how hard the Any% runs turned out to be. More appropriate title for that video should be "Getting gray hairs in your 20s, the run". Your persistence through the history of new skips on this game is astounding!

Glad you enjoy it. Normally no, you cannot take a rune from one level and use it in another. The reason I can do it in this case is because I am using a glitch to bring the save menu into the level

Really wish I got to experience this game in full. I only had it on some weird demo disc. It had a few games like SSX, Metal Gear, and Spyro. I think it was from pizza hut. Anyone had one or was it a fever dream?

Hello this is impressive speed run :) well I have one question : at 18:00 how is that possible? you have to heal the skeletons with your own HP so they can survive and fight for you , how do you do this? I mean you just look there and they win the fight ... is this some glitch or am I missing something?

I did a trick called soldier despawn, so there are only 4 enemy soldiers instead of 8. This means that I automatically win the fight

@@therianaruana6007 You can see that I open the inventory right before I activate the cutscene in the center of the room. Having the inventory open during the cutscene will stop half the enemy soldiers from spawning

I understand that having the inventory open only spawns four of Zarok's minions, but how did you have so many dudes on your side?

It is to do with your position. At the end of the cutscene you are in the center of the room. This happens to have all your soldiers and only 4 of the enemies in view You can see at the end of the fight when I move further to the other side of the arena they come into view and spawn

I found that even when the game is paused, not everything is paused. Some events will continue to happen. The dialogue that tells me I earned the dash is one of these. If I'm paused when the dialogue is meant to appear, it fails to show, saving 3 seconds

We use ePSXe. There is a glitch we do that can crash the game, and the crash is much more difficult to avoid on console. So while fast disc speed would save some time, it's balanced by being unable to perform the soldier despawn, making emulator and console about even with each other

We are using the speedglitch. If we mash to move in a direction with a certain rhythm, we can move a bit faster. I'm using autofire on L1 to make this easier on my hands

Finally i see the entire length of rune smuggling, and boy it is long...but does it actually lose that much time vs a perfect DGS ? how much of a potential time save would it be to practice DGS to perfection? Also, for the smuggling, has it been tested on a TAS the available time in between saves to see if its possible to stay longer non paused running? Perhaps a whole save could be trimmed off 🤔

It's only around 15 seconds slower than a perfect DGS, and 1000x more consistent. There is actually a new rune smuggle method that involves disabling the memory card at a point during the setup, and this lets you pull up the save menu in any level whenever you want by re-enabling the memory card. Unfortunately the setup currently required means replaying a level so it has no use
