Greeting from Australia! Just want to say thank you for this video, I have been putting off painting my nids as I didn't have the first idea about what techniques were going to work for me. Looking forward to tomorrow then! Ill be painting a unit of Necron Lychguard I hope to get done by the end of the month, based and all. Gonna be great to see your daily video while painting, to see your progress, as compared to mine. Of course, yours being far more complicated than my lowly 5 models haha. Also as a necron player, I can atest to a majority of the foot soldier using the same color schemes and techniques. However, once you do get to those vehicle/monster models, all the HQ/characters, and epic heroes, all that added detail, ornate accesories, and weapons will make that same color scheme fall a bit flat. I cant say the same for Tyranids though. There are a few who have some slightly unique anatomies like the psykers and some of the weirder weapon units but for the most part there anatomies all consist of the same biological makeup and stuctures

I CAN'T WAIT to paint the 'Nids when I pick up my copy of the Leviathan box tomorrow. My Hive Fleet is called Tenebreon, and the few models I've bought and painted so far have a nocturnal/abyssal colour scheme. Beetle carapaces inspired me to paint the Tyranid carapaces with Shifting colours (namely Scarab, Skyrat and Cyberia from Turbo Dork) because the former naturally often have an alien look to them IMHO and I think dark colour schemes best fit the Tyranids cosmically horrifying nature. My Hive Fleet's name is also a modification of Tenebrionidae, a family of beetles called darkling beetles and I fell in love with the alien flavour of the name 'darkling beetle'.
@MediocreHobbies Жыл бұрын
I love all of that. I have all of the turbo dork paints I really need to play around with them for some tyranids. Thanks for the inspiration

Greetings from Florida!! I’m being lazy and not scrolling so you may have answered this already, but I have a question about the ratio of water to your brown that you used on the carapace. Maybe it is an issue with my paint pot but no matter how much water I’m adding to the brown, it still doesn’t seem to be runny enough until I add just too much and it ends up a glaze with barely any coverage. What tips do you have for this stage? I really like the scheme you picked for this guy and I would like to emulate if for a box I am painting for a friend. Keep up the great work!
@MediocreHobbies4 ай бұрын
It should be the same consistency as milk. It’s usually around 1:1. Remember that it might dry darker than you think, and you’re not really looking for full coverage, more of a stain to break up the colours. Sorry this reply is so late!

Great job on the Psychophage ( bet I got that wrong 😂). I’m curious about you changing up your scheme by adding that extra area of pink, as you have such a large nid army will you revisit all of them after making a subtle change like this or are you happy enough to just do it from here on? The scheme is good. But this guys tutorial is horrendous. My suggestions to everyone who wants to try this out is to just note down the colors used, and then use your commons sense. If you follow what he says, you will never get the same result. Example: He says he never dilutes his paints. But he forgets to mention that he puts the contrast paints on a wet-palette, something he mentions in passing in another video. This ofcours dilutes the paints. The longer they are on the wet palette, the more diluted they will become. Sooo.... next to useless tutorial.
@MediocreHobbies Жыл бұрын
I do not use contrast on a wet pallet. And I’d suggest if you want to give helpful advice to a group of hobbiest maybe consider starting your own KZbin channel and you can make your own videos. Instead of spreading false information in my comment section.
