Super tips here mate. Knights are one of the easiest and fastest armies to paint to a high standard IMO. Just did 4 in about 3 weeks. Can do it even faster if you rattle can the body silver then all the sub assembly panels rattle can whatever your main colour is. In my case was yellow. Then just a few black or white panels to break it up and transfers galore.

my first 40k model was a knight. I had done an AOS army years prior so i assumed it would be easy. I used this really crappy super glue that made a lot of the flat surfaces bumpy, put it all together at the beginning, and broke all the little pipes and ladder rungs on the model. It actually looks good now painted, but i definitely wish i had waited until i was good at assembly.

Knights are great. They're guaranteed to grab attention on the table, with them being big and awesome looking models. My only advice beyond all that you said is: go crazy on them! You got tons of large flat panels with tons of room for free handing and unleashing some creativity, they're great platforms for converting into something entirely your own too. And they're of course their own thing. They're not a part of the Guard, or a marine or chapter, or anything like that. So don't paint them like your other dudes. Make them unique and let them stand out even more.

Another cracking video Andy, thanks so much for sharing. Haven’t started with 3D printing as yet, but having seen your videos and prints I’m pretty keen now and will be taking your recommendations. Key focus would be on some 10mm Warmaster (associated resin terrain), Cold War wargaming (modern armour) and 28mm Warhammer Fantasy. If time / schedule permits, might suggest a beginners guide to 3D printing (the process and tools you’ve found to work). Thanks again!

So, some friends finally talked me into getting into 40K. The downside is I haven't painted anything in almost twenty years. I am really considering Imperial Knights because they're big, with a lot of flat panels and easier details because of size. The 170$ price tag is a bit shocking, but I'd spent more on other stuff. As a novice painter, one that at least knows a few things to do right, are a couple Knights a good choice, assuming I go with a simple color scheme? I'm not afraid of stripping paint and starting over if I have to, that's just a matter of time and turpentine.

You don't even need the magnetize the main weapons just build them then don't glue in place that's how I've done mine and I have them in such a way that the little Pistons still move and everything if you change position of the guns and then you can just pop it off and put a different arm although that won't have the Pistons because one end is glued to the main weapons of choice yes but nights don't really need magnets is my point not for the arms
