My understanding is that puja, devotion, fasting, God reverence, karmkanda etc. are prerequisites for upliftment of soul to a level when there is a point when the devotee is eligible to know Atman. Therefore, devotion towards God is good and all karmkanda is good for preparation of soul for growth. When Yogi attains self realisation then Karmakanda is optional I believe.
