As always, Carmine, this video is terrific and packed with useful information. The degree of detail and micro contrast on large prints created with the Fuji 6x9 G690 and the Fujinon S 100mm f/3.5 lens totally amazed me; therefore, I'm delighted you created the video because for the last three months, I've been hunting for the 100mm f/3.5 lens I can adapt to work with both the Fujifilm GFX and the Nikon Z mount. And nobody wants to offer me a lens that is optically sound without a camera. Finally, the lens must be outstanding since nobody wants to sell a copy that is optically mint for its age.

The problem of buying a used G690 today, at least in the US, is that it was targeted at the domestic market and few were sold in the US. Apart from the standard 100mm lens, most of the lenses were never sold here, few were sold at all, and finding one today is more like a treasure hunt than shopping. The GW and GSW on the other hand are fairly common in all three of their formats (got to like that 6x8cm). They represent a camera which has been refined to be its best product over a 30 year period. Mechanically and optically, they are unequaled at what they do.

I have had several different versions of this camera including a G690BL with several lenses, GM670, GSW690ii, and the GW670iii. These are all excellent cameras with beautiful lenses… I’ve sold all except the GW670iii. My current obsession is pinhole photography. Maybe you can make a series on DIY pinhole cameras… Thanks for another great video👍🏻

Stuck between the 690ii and iii. I like the way the ii looks more and hear the rangefinder is better on it, but the iii is newer. Do you have a preference?

Thank you and great information as always!!!!! I also have the GW690 and love it. The images are clinically sharp. Mine looks almost unused. Sometimes I take it out to do landscape photos when I don’t want to lug out the 4x5 camera.

Without hesitation, by all means, get the Fujica GW690, IT HAS THE BUILT IN, GLORIOUS, FUJINON 90mm f3.5 which is sharper than a Samurai sword. PS buy it from a seller in Japan with 100% feedback/credibility. Yes it will cost more, don't look back on quality.

Hey Carmine! Thanks for the video! I was wondering how the 100mm lens compares to the fixed lens from the gw690iii. I have offers in my country for a really good GM670 with a 100mm and a gw690iii. The issue is that the gw690 seller is asking for double the amount, I can pay it if the results will be better.

Hassleblad-ish, TTL-ish or Fugica 120s. Which is most versatile. Which would be better for beginners?
@CarmineTavernaPhotography
@CarmineTavernaPhotography Жыл бұрын
Fujica GW690 is the best for beginner or Pro, not delicate or fragile. Focusing with a rangefinder is easy. The non interchangeable Lens is razor sharp. (Thereby your forced not to spend money on additional lenses)

Great overview and images! I‘d long wanted one of these lovely beasties, but when I learned about the 4-shot roll and why it existed, my enthusiasm dampened a bit as I figured a lot of them were probably used to death. I didn’t realize how heavy they were, though - the BLP is heavier than my Hasselblad, and not too far off my RB67! 😮

I read at the camera wiki that the Fujica G690 has a field corrected viewfinder, what does this mean exactly? The viewfinder doesn’t change its field of view depending on the lense, right?
@CarmineTavernaPhotography
@CarmineTavernaPhotography Жыл бұрын
What that means is, the viewfinder corrects for Paralex. It makes sure you get the subject correctly framed when you move in close.
@jalo4242
@jalo4242 Жыл бұрын
@@CarmineTavernaPhotography It is also paralax corrected, yes, but it seems like there is more to it. Here is the section about the view/rangefinder (I don’t know if I can post links here): The viewfinder is superior to that of most other rangefinder cameras (even the Leica M series) in that it is field-corrected: as the lens is focused, the brightlines adjust not only for parallax but also for field of view.

I have a budget reccomendation. I absolutely love my Moskva-4. A good one can be had for under $100. It can also shoot 6x6 and even 35mm with simple DIY inserts. The results are spectacular, rivaling my Canon EOS RP. 35mm shots are also wider than the x-pan. If something goes wrong, they are really easy to work on. The best part is that unlike the Fujicas, I can carry it in my pocket, so I almost always have it with me. All that being said, I'd love to see a comparison of photos shot with a Fujica and a Moskva.

When I had my GW690 repaired, a broken winder, he asked me if I wanted the counter turned back to 000. It seems that is very easy to do when the bottom plate has been removed for servicing.
