UPDATE ON THE ZEISS... Talking to "ABETTERANGLE" I took the tools to the Zeiss Ikon and removed the glass elements and it was the glass behind the blades that was real hazy. Nothing would remove it, not even lighter fluid. Iain suggested vinegar. Came off instantly. Glass clean now, next step try out some film! Thanks all. Roger

i know you said you didn't care for the way the nettar negs turned out, but i've got to say that i love the vintage feel of them. maybe not what you expected, but they are definitely interesting. looks like until you get your nettar repaired, you have a time machine =-)

Fantastic Roger ! Some great photos there. Very Eric Treacy ! (An old railway photographer who was a bishop !). These images look very nostalgic ! Could have been taken 50-60 years ago. Been down to the island to ride on these lately and I took my Mamiya C220 with some XP2 and captured a lot of this !

You made my day! First: my grandad was steam locomotive driver and gave me a lot of trips 'on board' when I was little, letting me to take part in burning first fire in refurbished locos, showing repairing process in local steam engine workshops...oh!what a memories! I love steam!!! Second thing: there is a sign on locomotive "birthday special. Happy 40 SZYMON" some Polish lad living on IOW was lucky! (It's Polish for Simon). Thanks and hopefully Nettar will be getting better soon! Take care!

Regarding the lens, I would try cerium oxide powder, mix to a creamy paste and gently rub in a circular motion on the front and rear elements, what your seeing is years of grim and cleaning marks, I have rejuvenated a few old lens and filters with this glass polishing powder

Thanks Martin! I used a drop of vinegar. It was the middle element just behind the blades. Came off well. But I'll keep your advice for some other lenses. Cheers.

Shoot Film Like a Boss Well it is a house brick in weight but not as heavy as my RZ67: There’s not a lot of info on KZbin: But I found it great camera to use: It is a rangefinders, easy to use, once in the flow, and quick to set up: Haven’t developed the film yet: I enjoyed it very much: I only shoot fomapan B&W , unless I get something off eBay cheep:

On the bright side, the soft focus on the Ikon does give the images that vintage, old feel as if they were taken years ago.

Sometimes lubricants from the shutter precipitate on the glass elements. Cleaning the insides of the glass can help. I had a 9x12 plate camera with the same problem, dark, muddy and unsharp pictures and cleaning the inside of the glas made a world of diffence.
@nigelgoldup4753
@nigelgoldup4753 4 жыл бұрын
FYI, I had the same issue. A suggestion you should check that the back element has been put in the right way. I had the same issue with a similar camera and I found that somebody else had serviced it and put the element around the wrong way. Turning it around made the difference it may take out some of your soft focus.

Glad to see you managed to fix the issue with the Zeiss Ikon Nettar. I was going to tell you that I have the same model, and that's exactly what I did to clean it up: vinegar (I used organic white) who kills fungus. I cant wait to see the results on the next video I'm pretty sure you're going to do very soon. Keep like that with your channel, it's really a great job. You flashed me back to my teens with it !
@lensman5762
@lensman5762 4 жыл бұрын
If the smearing is not on the surface of the lens then it could be that the lubricants on the shutter are the culprit. This a 3 element lens and you could try and take the rear cell off and see if you could wipe the smearing off using 99% isopropyl and a good quality microfiber . Don't use the 70% medical rubbing isopropyl as these will smear the lens. Very nice photos BTW. Sepia tone the ones from the Nettar, very nostalgic indeed.

Roger -- when shooting black locos with a 'Between Lens Shutter' you can synch with FLASH at all speeds such as the 1/200th on your Nettar -- so why not get a small Sunpak or similar as i use and use 'flash fill-in' -- it will make all the difference and much easier to print. I have got great snaps with my 1956 Agfa Isolette III at Severn Valley Railway and Epping and Ongar Railway using flash and I can use 1/500th on the Synchro-Compur Shutter.

Nice episode, btw would have liked it to be all in black and white like the beginning :-) / Concerning your unsharp pictures on the Nettar, could it be that the film pulled out by opening the lens to fast from the camera? Lovely shots. Quick question - were you using a 50mm lens on the Chinon? For years I shot using 50s when out in the street, but I got more and more into wider lenses - 35 or 28 - as time went on. I can shoot at wider apertures and have fewer problems with depth of field or focus, plus I really enjoy the angle of view. Especially for things like trains, the perspective can make it look like things are coming right out at you.
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss 4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a wide for the Chinon. The 50mm was an ideal choice for some of the train but, agreed ,a wide would have looked great for its approach Jim!

Hi Roger, most of the times when I see haze on a lens its fungus - but sometimes the helicoid lubricant can break down and will migrate onto the glass (see: www.zeisscamera.com/services_lens.shtml ). Easily cleaned yourself, but a slightly filddly job with the requirement of one or two specialist tools (lens wrench and rubber lens tools). A classic camera repairman will do it for you no problem (take shutter out, clean glass, regrease helicoid and put back together with infinity focus).
